Just finished up this one. It was the "demo" I built along with my
students. Lacewood and alder body, with curly maple binding and pup
rings. Maple and cherry neck, EIR fb. Polyurethane finish on the bod, tru
oil on the neck, which I'm loving. Special thanks to Dave White for all his
tips on that.

Wow What a Beauty!   

I agree with everyone else. I love it. Can you tell me about your
technique with the tru-oil/neck finish or would it be in a thread I could
find?

That's a really great looking electric.  The Lacewood really pops under the finish you used.  Outstanding!

Thanks so much, everyone! I'm really happy with the way it came out,
except that there's a few finish flaws. I think the layers separated in a
couple places while I was buffing it out. Anyway, thanks again for all the
nice comments.

James, I got most of the info for tru-oiling from old Dave White posts. I
started with a couple coats of the tru-oil sealer, letting it dry and rubbing
with 00 steel wool between coats. Then I put on 4 or 5 coats of the
regular tru-oil, again rubbing with 00 in between. I applied it all with a
paper towel. After the last coat was dry, I "leveled" it with 0000. It is
such a fast neck. I will certainly be using that again in the future. Dave
has used the tru-oil over shellac and z-poxy before, which I'd like to try
as well.

That's really cool, Mike. Thanks for explaining it. I'm not happy with the
gloss I did on my tele's neck because it's can be sticky. I've been
considering doing a satin neck with a gloss headstock. I think I may use
the tru-oil.

Very Beautiful! I assume that's a drop top? How did you do the scalloping in the top? was that free hand or did you use a router of sorts? It really looks great. I like the fact there aren't any fret markers on the fret board. I hate fret markers! That guitar looks spectacular! I bet it sounds as good as she looks!

Its rare that someone can come up with a decent new design that isnt of a knockoff sort, this really fits the bill, this is as much as its own thing as an homage to the great designs of yesteryear -good job! I really like the lacewood it really pops under nice finish!

Impressive! I agree with Charlie. I love it when someone puts the effort into new designs. It looks like you had a starting point (Telecaster), and then made something that's all your own. Nice work.

James, I promise you'll like the tru-oil.

Dave B, I rough out the top's carve with an angle grinder with a flexible
sanding disc on it. Then I come in with finger planes, carving chisels, and
card scrapers. I really like using a curvy card scraper, actually. I agree
about the fret markers too.
