Hello,
I would like to know if any OLF members are building in Maui. I will be leaving for a vacation on the islands soon and thought, "what could be better than touring a luthier's shop and getting to see, in person, all of those cool jigs, benders, dishes and such?" Of course, SWMBO may not agree.
Being a newbie to the process and only recently starting to gather materials for my first guitar, I believe it would be invaluable to have this type of exposure and what a great addition to a relaxing island vacation!
If any of you are on Maui and would be willing to let me come by... maybe even give some pointers, etc. please let me know, PM or email.
I'll bring the beer, coffee, or some other delight that only the mainland can offer if needed.
thanks,
chris

Chris, I know there's at least one OLF member who lives in Hawaii, just can't remember who. If no one answers this post maybe you could drop an email to Bob Gleason at Pegasus guitars. He might at least give you a shop tour and let you drool over some curly koa.

Thanks Dave and Hesh,
I'll send him a request. Who knows, maybe I'll find some billets of that pretty koa while on the big island. For that matter, why not a whole bole? Do you think I can get the chainsaw in a carry-on?

Oops, I did see Roy in the member bios. He is on the Big Island in Kona. Unfortunately, we will only be visiting the Big Island for one day and won't even make it all the way over the Kona.
I'll took a peek at Pegasus Guitars and they are on vacation until June 6, and no email will be answered.  Now I have to ask, where does a Hawaiian go on vacation? Iowa?

Chris

Also Rollo Scheurenbrand (Rollo on the OLF) is from Hawaii, I just can't remember to what Island I sent his stuff to him .

He makes awesome guitars and you can see them here.

That would be Kailua HI.  I Googled the phone number. It is across Oahu from Honolulu.

Thanks guys,
Wow, he has some great work. That koa is awesome. Maybe it is time to take residence on Maui and give lutherie a shot; featuring guitar rentals for those too scared to travel with their guitars.
