Watson that is. We went to see him and David Holt. I'm still in awe. Definately not one of those shows that you stand the whole time (which is a good thing for my knees) and dance and screem...but I just sat there in complete awe knowing that I was watching one of, if not THE, best guitar players in the world.
Put it on your list of things to do before you die. (Or before he dies which will likely be sooner, he's 84)

I share your feelings about Doc Watson, Paul. I saw him the last time he came to Ithaca (and several other times over the years). What phenomenal artistry comes through that guy. You just can't quantify how much he's given to American musical culture. I count myself among the many millions who've been deeply inspired by his playing and singing, and I sure am grateful to have been born during his life and career.

I have seen him on two occasions and was in awe. The first time was at an anniversary celebration for a guitar company that he has endorsed for years. Here was this seemingly frail old man being lead by arm and hand across the stage and and over cables. You just wanted to reach out and help get him there safely and comfortably. But once he sat down, he settled in and he owned the stage. Total mastery.

I have to agree, his voice often doesn't get enough credit. Everything he does is pure "Doc".

I agree Paul. Doc Watson played at my booth during the 1997 NAMM
show in Nashville. He came in with Don Gallagher and another guy while
Don popped in to talk to me and decided to sit down to play a guitar or
two while we talked.

Well, needless to say, a crowd starte to gather as he began to play so I
asked if he'd mind if i plugged him in for a few minutes. He graciously
agreed and played for about an hour and a half for one of the larger
groups of listeners that I'd seen at a booth for an artist....and all on a
whim and unannounced.

He's a great guy as is Don Gallagher who's built guitars for him for a
long time. You catch yourself having to close your mouth over and over
when he plays because he pulls things off the top of his head that make
your jaw drop in awe.
