It's over my head, but the amount of work that goes into tonewood is
astounding. I'm even more impressed with Shane after this thread.

Thaks again all! I feel that we can make a difference here and I will be moving forward on all of this. I just this weekend had a request from another HUGE name in the high end guitar business. I had to ask him to bear with me, He will stating:

"Shane... no problem! You sound like a great guy.. I am in no hurry... really. If you would just remember me when you are cutting again I would be thankful. Save me some nice ones and I don't care about the wait. I've got plenty of patience!"

Man I appreciate that kind of support and will indeed work towards getting him what he needs. By the way, that was Jim Olson!

So I think we have a chance in all of this if I present it right. None of the politicians now Jim Olsen, John Greven, Bob Talyor, George Lowden, Brock , Lance , Hesh, Steve K, the Todds and any of the rest of you any more than they know me so the presentation really has to inform them about this business and how it contributes to the cultures of the world and what part each of you play in that, then it has to describe how access to these trees lends to the role each of you play in enriching the lives of so many others that play the music that soothes the souls of those who hear it. That is my role to put this togehter properly. Todd Stock and I will work at that, we will let you all know what further role you can play, beyond what you already do in making these awesome gifts for the human spirit.

Wow shane that's another huge name.

You know that the politicians certainly may not know the builders but they certainly would have hurd of some of the big name players.

Olson: James Taylor, Sting, David Wilcox, Leo Kottke, David Crosby, Al Petteway, Lou Reed

Taylor: Leo Kottke, Neil Young, Brian Adams (canadian content) to many to list of course.

Lowden: get a list from him

Same with John Greven.

The only possible down side of gaining the governments favour for your harvesting of this great wood is that they may find some crazy way to tax you on it more than you pay at the moment.

But even still, it would certainly be worth it if that would give your licence an extension. You'd have to take a leave of absence from your day job just so you could harvest 10-20 trees, that should set you have for a while.

good on ya Shane, couldn't have happened to a nicer fellow.

I was lucky enough to have the aforementioned Greven 00 for three days last week and I can attest to the remarkable vintage sound that John is getting with his Lutz topped guitars. He's very high on the Lutz top/Adi brace combination. This is a very plain guitar with mismatched sides/back that was built as a prototype. As usual, John has nailed the tone he was going after as he always does. For anyone out there, who's played one of John's L-00 (a totally different tonal palette), you know what I mean. He's right when he says there's nothing unusual about the construction of the guitar itself. I looked at every square inch of that guitar inside and out and there's no "magic" in the construction techniques. The "majic" is in the maker.

After you've built about 2000 instruments, (the serial number on this one was over 2000, I looked) you get a feel for what works and what doesn't. Ask John and he'll tell you there's nothing special about the way he does things, he just knows how to tweak the things that really matter. In my opinion, he's simply the best there is.

I just finished my first two Lutz-topped guitars (from either Bob C or Shane, I can't remember), one SJ and one GC and they're both very responsive. I'll be building lots more with Lutz.
