Well Trev and Cheryl, the OM twins, are finished so I thought I'd post a couple of photos of Trev the parabolic. I can't find Cheryl. She disappeared into Dave's house and I can't prise it off him. They both sound pretty sweet.

For anyone who missed the thread on these a few months back they are identical apart from the bracing. Trev is parabolic while Cheryl is scalloped.

This was an experiment to see how the different bracing styles affect the tone of the instrument.

Did they differ?

You'll have to wait until next week when I post sound clips and you can decide yourself.

I'll try and get some better pics and post both of them along with sound. better still I'll get Dave's father in law to take them 'cause I'm not a photographers gluteus maximus.

It's been raining and gloomy here in Victoria for the best part of a week so were all a bit stunned . So no good for outside pics.

I've got a mate who is the manager of the local Martin dealership lined up to play on the recording and make some comments so it's a matter of 'getting the planets to align'. Hopefully I'll have it all together early next week.

PS Hope the missus hasn't discovered your feeding frenzy.

That's some fine looking guitar.  It looks so good, it's hard to believe there is a mate that looks as good.  Can't wait to see more pictures and hear the comparison.

There is just something about an ornate instrument, {but not too highly ornate}
that also sounds fantastic,
they just tickle me pink!
I am very keen to hear the difference betwen the 2 guitars... Im sure they both sound great though.

Charliewood - I think these are on the border of what I personally like in ornateness. I actually prefer something a little more subdued but we did them both with the intention of a)testing out the paua purfling technique and b) having a couple of guitars with ab purfling to show customers.

Dave - remember the discussion we had about the DADGAD guitar a few months back.

Well, the bloke who wants the DADGAD played both of these last weekend to make a decision which style of bracing we were going to put on his new guitar.

It took about two hours of indecision before he decided he liked the scalloped braces better.

He liked the more pronounced bottom end.

I personally think that the parabolic sound would suit him better in a session, (we tend to get Bodhran orchestras at sessions here in Oz) but he is the paying customer so it's ultmately his call.

What's the difference between a bodhran player and a dead rabbit on the side of the road?
