I agree that the pics are great to look at. However, threads about alien
look-alike grain and stripes in your wood regularly bury threads about
skills. They linger at the top because they don't take a lot from a person
to respond to. They don't need applicable knowledge, just a punchline
or, "look cool!" I would just prefer they'd be in a different section. This
may just be my preference, and I'm not looking to turn it into an issue.

I don't know but to me a little brevity on the main forum page doesn't hurt any thing. that was one of the thing I loved about this forum back 3 or four years ago when I first joined. I guess things change, The forum has a much larger membership now. Inevitable as it might be as we get larger, I am saddened with the loss the relaxed friendly atmosphere we once had.

Personally I believe a unique figuring in a set of wood and any brevity derived from it has as much to do with as talking about additions to our shops. Trips we take to visit other luthiers.

I am not pointing fingers at anyone. It is just that in my personal opinion if we make the main forum completely void of any thoughts outside of building we change the personality of the forum in a way leads to loosing the friendliness that makes this forum different and that difference is what has made this forum strong. For me anyway; a truly personable community is what made join in the first place.

I am likely to censored here and maybe deservedly so. I guess I should quit before I get in trouble.
I enjoy wood threads and after all with out wood we all would be making plastic guitars.....
Now this might be a bit technical, but without wood, we would not have plastic...correct?

No, I agree with you Michael. I'm just thinking in terms of organization or
efficiency. Like I said, I enjoy these threads and do click on them. I like
the show and tell. A lot of threads with technical based questions get
hidden and squashed by them, and I think organizing them more
specifically would make each aspect of the forum stand out even more
and stick around even longer. I would enjoy seeing every new set of great
woods (I bought my curly mahogany after Hesh showed his), and I would
love to see more specific (thus less frequently responded to) threads stick
around in view longer.

Just my thoughts. Now I'm back to writing a paper on Major Depressive
Disorders as exhibited in Special Education students.

James I need to tell you that my post was not directed at you. Maybe a bit at your line of thought on the issue but not personal at all.

I guess I look at a bit different. I have no issue scrolling through a lot to find points of interest. I am sure it may be a nuisance for some. However IMOP nothing is squashed around here. It may not stay at the top but it is there. A lot of responses to a post, to me indicates that the brethren enjoy the levity. I guess I look at the forum as more than just a knowledge depository, but like a luthier social club. That may be my error but that is how I feel about this place and my fellow luthiers.

Personally I remember and hold too dear probably the forum from four years ago. I know and understand that as we grow we will not be quite as close knit of a group as we once were. but my feelings are that the levity of such post help to con-gel the group as a whole.

I wanted you to know that I did not take you post harshly. I did understand where you were coming from. But that I fell there is a usefulness for these kinds of posts on the main forum that contributes to the well being of the community as a whole

your brother in wood
Michael

I dunno -- looking at interesting, nicely figured and different tonewood has an educational value, well at least to me. A couple of years ago I wouldn't know a piece of Narra if it banged me on the head. Well now I might. Splash a little Billy and Hesh artwork....and you've got a much needed chuckle.

Michael for what its worth, I think you are spot on.

Sorry again Hesh Buddy! Couldn't resist, your shot of the Zootmeister gave me inspiration!

I look at WAS threads like a bunch of monkeys when one of the pack finds a tree filled with fruit or nuts(Nothing personal JJ )! They all start jump'ing and scream'in! It makes everybody happy!

Everytime I see Zootman's name in a thread title I "gotz ta click 'n get goofy"!

     Primate celebratory, all it iz!

Thanks, Michael. Sorry I didn't respond sooner! Summer school is four
hours a night, five nights a week, but it's over next week. I really
appreciate that!
