Hesh-

I bought 4 sets of mahogany from Todd - 2 were quilted and 2 were just like yours with the jaguar's ear figure. It looks just like bearclaw in spruce - purdy.

Those 2 sets on the weekly special pages were the last 2 sets of The Tree Allied had. I noticed someone bought the other set, so you probably bought the last remaining set available anywhere. Save that stuff for something really special.

That is one gorgeous set of EI rosewood. I think my favorite page of the weekly stuff is the last one because of all the colorful Indian sets Todd has for sale. I wonder how long stuff like that will be available?

Enjoy the new zoot-

Yes, the tree was felled in Brazil? in the late 70's or early 80's... It fell in some large gully and there it stayed for a while. The best figure has amazing quilt that permeates even the end-grain...

The figure was so crazy that it became known as 'The Tree'...

I've never heard a guitar made with it, however those who have say it sounds as good as it looks... (maybe the eyes enhacing the ears... )

Nice score on both woods, Hesh!

Colin has infected me as well with his passion for mahogany. The one I recently built is very special. I plan to reach fo more.

Hi-

I hope Todd at Allied doesn't mind - I swiped these scans from his website. It is the story of The Tree from Fine Woodworking Sept/Oct 1985.

Sylvan Wells has a guitar that he made from "The Tree". It is decked out with lots of bling and while it is beautiful it is also LOUD!!

Hey Hesh! The OLF "AJ" plan would be a perfect candidate for that mahogany!
