Todd, I think Bruce Dickey has the Olson SJ pattern, but im not sure he has the OLF SJ? Maybe he will chime in. On the case, Ameritage offers an OLFSJ case.

Paul Davis has the Olson SJ pattern as well. I had him make me a vinyl template of the Olson SJ as well as a 1958 D-28 and a couple of fb slotting templates.

Anyway, I will take the basic measurement for you Todd and post back here.

I'm also pretty sure that the Olson has a 4-5/8" tail height and a 4-1/8" height at the neck. I think for some reason that Olson uses a 25.3 scale (don't quote me on that though). I have searched the net many times for Olson sizing information but have had very little luck.

Bruce did (hopefully still does) have same Olson plans that he made from one he had in his shop.

Maybe someone else can post the OLF SJ info from the plans Michael P drafted.

What I remember is that the Olson will fit in an Access Stage Five tightly with the half inch backpad removed and the neck/shoulder pad removed. Then I shipped that case to Hesh.

I worked on one OLF SJ, let's see, the one at John Watkins. There was no case at the time I shipped it to Brock who shipped it to John How in California.

Now Michael Payne has shipped the Custom Fitting donated Ameritage to John Watkins so maybe he could try at least the body in the case and see how it fits for you? Maybe not, he's fairly busy.

John W. shipped me the GD Armstrong donated Access stage 5 case used in the interim, for the soldier boy's guitar I'm "not" currently working on, but it hasn't arrived and doesn't matter to this thread anywas sinced it's a dred. I just need to get off my butt and get in the shop. I'm not getting any younger.

Here are the measurements off the template I got from Paul Davis (He has a set of the drawings that Bruce made a couple of years ago)

L.B. = 14-7/8"
U.B. = 10-15/16"
Waist = 9"
Length = 19-3/8"

There is some discrepancies (although minor, but still different) from the template and the information on Jim's website here

Everything is there on Jim's site. except for the thickness of the body at the neck which is 3-3/4"

Hey Bruce, if you still have the drawing would you mind verifying the dimension's I posted from the template for me versus the actual dimensions on Jim's website. Thanks. I may have to get Paul to re-do the template for me. Glad I haven't made the mold and bending form yet.

Ok here is what I know. I was told that the Ameritage SJ AM-32 case was based off an Olson SJ. When The donated Ameritage AM-32 case arrived at my location the body was section was for a 15" LB, 11 7/8" UB 10" waist with the waist 6" from the neck joint. the body length was 20 1/2" long. This meant that the OLF SJ was 1/2" shorter than the case body section. When I pointed this out to Ameritage They asked for my specs and built a case (AM-32OLF) around my SJ and donated that. Taking that info into consideration I have been under the impression that the Olson SJ was a 15" LB, 11 7/8" UB, 10" waist and a 21 1/2" long body. But I could have been miss lead about the Ameritage AM-32 was designed around the Olson SJ.

Here is the outworking of my first OSJ on the bench, not necessarily what I thought either.

Body length: 19 9/16"
Lower Bout:   15 1/8"
Upper Bout:   11 3/16"
Waist:        9 1/4"
Tail:        4 15/16"
Neck:        3 3/4"

That's my story on the OSJ and yes, the tail got a little large didn't it? This guitar is for my son he helped build the mold and bend the sides.

Hum that means that the Ameritage AM-32 is not designed around the Olson SJ then because the body you show here is 15/16" shorter than the the body the Ameritage AM-32 is designed for.

I might mention that the OLFSJ will fit into the Ameritage Standard AM-32 SJ case but the OLFSJ will be just over a 1/2" short of touch the padding at the butt end and the case is a tight fit in depth. You can't push the OLFSJ back to butt up to the padding because of the waist location. Once again the AM-32OLF fit perfect.
