Probably one of the nicest combinations of woods that I have ever seen!

I like it all, but espcially that nice top. That kind of silking seems to be only coming from Sitka these days no matter the price. Don, did you get that top from W. Lipton? it's got Euphonon written all over it.

Thanks for the kind and gracious words. I was hoping to bring this with me to the ASIA Symposium, but it won't be ready. I'm having a local guy spray nitro on it, and it will be another week or two before I see it back - just not enough time to get it ready.

I'm really liking this guitar, and hope it will be my best effort to date. Everything on this guitar is Master Grade or awful close to it.

Paul, you have a keen eye there brother! Both the top and the b&s set are from Walter's stock of Master grade. He has some beautiful wood, eh? The Black Acacia bindings really

Very nice Don. I really like your new logo. It has a nice rounded flowing feel to it but the square dots look a bit odd. Did you consider using round dots? I think it may blend better with the rounded theme BUT you may have wanted to break it up a bit. OK, I'll keep my comments to myself Let us know how it sounds.

Paul: Not sure about that. The Engelmann I've got isn't terribly silky at all, but pretty much every single piece of Italian I have has lots and lots of silk going for it. Ton of the stuff.

Hey Tim....tell that to the person who created the font! It's Script MT Bold. That's the way they make the dots, which have rounded bottoms btw.

did you execute the inlay or outsource it. if so, to whom?

The inlay was cut with a laser & installed in the headplate by Gurian's. The only gripe I have with it is that it tends to burn the abalam which causes bubbling in it. The W in this is very white compared to the rest as a result. Not very pearl-like at all.
In the future I see cnc cut logos and pockets instead.

Don has been sharing some progress pics of this guitar with me for a while now, I agree with everything thats been said here, its a wonderful looking guitar, great looking neck, and the logo is top notch - Good work buddy!
Tell ya what, Ill stay up nights and bust but to get the the Redwood Rosewood SJ Ready and bring it to ASIA IF you bust butt and bring that handsome devil with?

Hi all. I've enjoyed reading these comments, since the guitar in question is mine. It's the first handmade I've ever owned, and I couldn't be more excited.

Without making Don's head swell, he's been incredible throughout this process: informative, patient and funny. I can't wait to get my hands on the instrument.

Where do you buy your Italian spruce? Haven't tried Italian yet but would sure like to stockpile some if it looks like that. Always looking for new sources.

I've gotten my stuff from Rivolta, http://www.riwoods.com. They're not always the promptest at replying to things, but their stuff is great, very friendly, and their prices fair. They'll be at ASIA in person, too, if you're going.

Here's a sample shot showing some of the silking on a freshly planed grade I (their equivalent to AAA, let's say) top, for example. Silk's kinda hard to photograph well, though, so that's the best I can do f'r now.

Thanks Mattia! I've heard of them but never visted their site. Been wanting to try some of that Italian for awhile. Oh my, I'm turning into a wood hoarder! I've heard this is a sympton of the final stages of Luthieritis.

Oh, it'll get worse. I built my first acoustic (have been doing electrics for years now) a little less than a year ago, and I'm now sitting next to backs, sides and tops for 30 more.

Rivolta's got some pretty nice Macassar ebony sets as well, albeit generally a little on the small sides, pretty reasonable prices. If they've still got the stuff, they should be willing to send you a few pics.
