You know, finishing is a lot of work, but looking at your guitar and Hesh's, it strikes me that Tony has got to be having fun. Man those two are just alive, and it's got to be rewarding for him to see it happen.

Really nice, Andy.
Oh, noticed the same rosette as on the ebony guitar.
New theme? Or just duplicating a successful look?

Steve

It was easy to bend on the John H bender.
On the other hand. I use a double side technique which makes bending way
easier!!!!
I thin my outer piece.(Quilted Sapele) to around 0.055-0.06
I thin my inner piece (EIR) to 0.04
Both pieces and stacked together and bent together at the same time.
Once completed, they are epoxied together to form the side. Bending really
thin pieces is a snap....(woops not really a snap)
The double side technique gives you a VERY rigid side with no spring back
They support a thin top and back very well.

Andy, you wouldn't happen to have pics of the clamping technique for gluing up the double sides would you? Do you use a vacuum setup of some sort?

I will take some picts later.
Basically I have made an inside half mold that is a bit smaller that the guitar. So when the sides fit over it it is the correct size. I just use thin cauls and spring clamps.    Very easy. I routed a channel in the mold to hold the clamp.

[/QUOTE]

Bob I don't use Andy's double sided process but I have bent 6 sets of heavy quilted Sapele. The first two sets I bent at .09-.085 I had some minor cracking in the upper bout and waist and some minor faciting. The third set I bent at .070-.075 and had only some minor faciting. The rest of the sets I bent at .070-.075 but use that Supersoft 2 wood conditioner and had no issues at all. Sapele actually bend like Mahogany. It is the quilt that puts the bugger on the plate.

Here is a pict of my clamping.
There is wax paper on both sides of the wood to prevent me from making my mold a single use item!!!!
The clamps just fit in the groove I routed in the sides fo the mold. I have made a mold like this for each body shape. It is just a bit smaller then the guitar to allow the thickness of the sides to give me the right dimensions

Andy,

This is a very nice looking guitar as always. Except for the nice rosette, this is the look I’m working towards on the Bubinga/Lutz/Ebony/ guitar for my Father. If my even looks similar I will be pleased.

Thanks for the answer and pic Andy! That clears things up for my feeble little brain.

Another beautiful guitar on the OLF.  White room pictures are fun for all of us.
