Hi All,

I’ve been trying to find a side set of Bolivian Rosewood (Pau Ferro) that would go with a
OM cutaway pre-braced back I already have. Other than Ebay, I’ve not found a source, or a
supplier.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

RC Tonewoods has had it in the past. You might check with Bob. I think Shane might have some as well (High Mountain).
And actually, now that I think of it Steve at Colonial likely has some.

i believe that bolivian rosewood is also known as pau fero, morado, plus another name or two which don't come to mind right now.

Bolivian Rosewood, Pau Ferro, Morado, Caviuna and Palo Santos are all different names for the same thing according to LMII, who also sell well it.

If you were in Portland. I could walk you down to a local lumber dealer that just recieved a fresh stack(picked up some nice quartered stock from them, good stuff ). I would slice you up a set, but I am moving my shop right now. I am sure one of the sponcers will have a set for you. If you draw a blank with them, and can wait a while I will help.

Paul, I have tried the sources you mentioned with no luck. I been thinking, perhaps I could use
Indian Rosewood, as they are close in color, and texture? I’ll be getting together with a few OLF
members (MAGI) in July. We’re going to visit a supplier of EIR in Charlotte, NC.

   It might take a couple weeks to get my new shop squared away. Can you post up a pick of the back set so I can make sure I would have a good color match. Sounds like you have some pretty dark Pau Ferro if EIR is a good match.

Which place? Gilmer's? I got (what I think) was a great deal on a very nice looking set from Michael Gurian who isn't really in the business of selling sets, but a few of us OLFers got lucky when we toured his shop. This is my first set of the stuff, but I really like the look of it (it's nothing like EIR) and would be interested in getting some in billet form if you know a source. I'll post a pic later tonight because he called it Santos Rosewood and said it was also called Pau Ferro - I'm too new to this to know any different . I'm up in Tacoma, but am looking for a reason to get down to Portland. Let me know.

    That is a pretty common color for Pau Ferro(sometimes it can be much darker). That set is flat(or plain) sawn. I try to use closer to quarter on the sides(which will appear a little darker overall, much like the closer grained areas near the center of the bookmatch). I have a side billet from the same board as this set that I placed on the last swap meet.


Hopefully that color will work for you.

As soon as I have my saw, and sander hooked up I will slice you a set. You can PM me and I will keep you updated on how long it will be.
