As some of you may remember, I posted a short time ago about #3's
nitro finish and the lack of using a pore filler.
I thought I'd post the results for y'all to see.
I think it looks ok, but this is something that I will not make the mistake
of again.

As a refresher for those who missed it the first time around:
What happened is I used the services of an excellent finish restorer on
antique furniture who is very adept at spraying nitro but who had never
finished a guitar before. He informed me he used a vinyl sealer. In my
ignorance, I thought it would double as a pore filler. This is NOT the case!

I started a thread asking for advice here on the forum and my choices
were to
1. strip, pore fill, refinish
2. sand finish and fill with nitro
3. let it be since it was not a commission, string it up and enjoy.

I chose option 3

I know of some others who prefer to finish their guitars this way, and
many folks who have seen this one say they absolutely love the look of
seeing the pores. For my personal preference, however, this would not be
my choice of appearance. Oh well, live and learn and move on to #4!

Thanks as always for the tips along the way and I'll be sure and update
with pics upon #3's completion.

Chris I think it's a strikingly beautiful guitar. You made the right choice for this one. Love that mahogany.

Yup, as usual I'm with Uncle Bob.
Chris, your guitar looks great.
I love the color of that mahog. Man, that's pretty.

If the finish is light, then I have a preference to see the wood in all it's natural glory...ie. with pores..all my personal guitars will not be pore filled, but the rightie I'm going to build will be, because it's not me who's going to play it, as it's traditional to see a pore-filled guitar.

Chris,

That's one fabulous looking guitar. If you keep looking at the open pores rather than the stunning vibrancy of that mahogany top (can't see the back but I bet it looks great too) then, as they say, you are "missing the wood for the trees".

You should be well pleased

Really great looking guitar, Chris!  I'd say the open pores might even add to the beauty, giving it that soft, warm look.

Chris, the guitar is lovely, really. Superbly executed. Don't fret over the pores. Please let us know how it sounds when you get it strung up.

Man that is a pretty guitar! I cant really see the pores in the pictures, so it must not detract from the guitar's beauty.

GREAT JOB !!

Absolutely beautiful. Option 3 is a very good choice.
