Hey, guys, I just returned from a 9 day historic tour of Virginia and it was great. What a beautiful state!

AND

I met and visited (and shopped) with our own Steve Roberson of Colonial Tonewoods!! All the wood I've used has come from Steve or BobC (Zoot Capitol of the North). Both gentlemen are as fine as any men I know.     It was a tremendous pleasure meeting Steve and he showed me tons of wood. Steve has a great shop and a wonderfully large, climate controlled room for storing the treasure. It was a great experience for me to buy wood that I could touch, although I've never been disappointed with anything that Steve or Bob picked out for me. Steve just kept putting stacks of sets on the table and said pick out what you want. What fun!

Here are a couple of shots of Steve trying to add as fast as I could select things.









I got mostly tops: Three more of the master grade bear claw sitka and one red spruce. Wow, they are so fine.

I also got an orphaned Koa back to use as a top on an all koa OM.

And, I got a fantastic set of Australian blackwood b/s.

Some kerfing and a couple of macassar bridge blanks, and Steve threw in some adi bracing for the top. Also got half a dozen head blocks and tail blocks.

I know many of you deal with Steve, too, but to those that haven't yet, let me tell you that he has fabulous wood and is one class act, as all the sponsors I've dealt with are.

Yeah, well, we discussed the OLF and I asked Steve about posting photos, and, of course, with us being aware of your photoshop mastery, Steve insisted on using his stunt double for the pics.

How 'bout some face on shots of the wood you got. I can't tell much about endgrain in the pics?   

Steve does appear very handsome in that Colonial T-shirt. I have one of those.....

I have to agree about Steve at Colonial. I visited him last year and had a great time and got some wonderful wood. Super nice guy to work with. Kind of off the beaten path, though.

Yep! I have bought several sets from Steve. From outrageous Koa to superb Sitka and more

I just bought a AAA adi top from Steve and he sent me a AA top with it for nothing. What a guy! I've always gotten exactly what I wanted when dealing with Steve.

BTW, the AA top looks every bit as good as the AAA top to me.

Thanks for the kind comments everyone. All OLF members are welcome to my shop anytime! I like having visitors..beats resawing wood all day.

I know the swap meet is over but if anyone is interested, I have some A grade Red spruce tops for $25 and AA tops for $50.

I know it's a lot to ask, but Pictures sell wood.  And besides, I bet every other luthier on the OLF doesn't even own a stick of Adirondack....

JB..Took your advice and snapped some pics.

These are representative samples I randomly selected from the A and AA stacks respectively.

A Grade tops will have wider and coarser grain. There may be some color streaking...can you say sunburst? All tops are exceptionally stiff and dead quartersawn.

A Grade tops $25 each.






AA grade tops will have fine grain in the center and wider grain in the lower bout area. Most tops will have compression grain (the red streaks). All tops are dead quartersawn and exceptionally stiff.

AA Grade tops $50 each.

Forgot to mention that all tops are dreadnaught/steel string sized, 22" long by 8 1/2" wide and .190+" thick.

The single A's are a bargain @ $25 each, would you mind pulling 4 nice ones out of the stack and putting them aside until next order
