I just finished this for a guitarist who is also an avid hunter. He wanted a guitar that was not too flashy. (so I had to restrain myself) We went with a IRW/Sinker Redwood combo for a dark, understated look. And a Ringneck Pheasant for an inlay.

It's only just recently strung-up, but so far, it sounds very balanced, but with a big bass, (I think it will sound really good in lowered tunings).

The Ebony came from RC Tonewoods, Thanks Bob!

Binding is off-cuts from the sides.
Rosette is off-cuts from back.
Neck is Walnut/Bocote/Walnut/Bocote/Walnut.

Oh... I'm not showing photos of the back... I don't want the owner to see it yet... I gotta' have something to surprise him with

Less is best That looks to be a really nice guitar with the design and woods as "balanced" as the sound. I'm looking forwards to seeing the back pictures - if that makes sense

Did you do the same thing with top thickness and bracing as you did with the guitar you had at ASIA ?

Dave, the guitars owner is going to have it shot by a real photographer, so I hope to have some really good pics of this guitar (including the back).

Mark, this Redwood top was only .120 - .125 when I got it, so I had to approach this one a little different, it finished at about .110 and I used Sitka braces instead of Cedar. It's scalloped X bracing with two angled tone bars.

Beautiful work Bob. You must have been working on a couple at once because I've seen you post some sweet looking guitars over the last few weeks. I do have a question for you. You mentioned that because this was a thin top you used sitka instead of cedar bracewood, why would you normally have used cedar for your braces? I've only worked with sitka tops and braces, so any info on material selection would be appreciated.

I don't really use cedar or spruce bracing for any particular top. (Yet) But I have been switching between the two in an effort to develop a sense for what the difference might be. I've done deflection test between the two and they seem to be pretty close to the same.

So far the only thing that I can say with certainty is the cedar bracing makes the guitars smell nice.

The guitar Mark mentioned had a Lutz top that finished around .145 and it sounded really good, I've been going more in that direction... thicker tops and lighter braces. I think this keeps the tops from getting some of the deformation you see in tops that are thiner.

Bob, everything about that guitar looks grand.
But I think the rosette looks particularly appropriate.

Well Bob, looks like you have built another work of art instrument. Folks I’ve seen handled and played many of Bob’s guitars. This guy is the real deal. The last one that I had the pleasure of playing was the sap wood with the Lutz top, WOW!!!  What a cannon! I wanted to call the bank and take it home right then.  Thank you, for the comments about MY guitar. That’s right, Bob built this guitar for me and I can’t wait to play it. Delivery date is 8 days away and it will be played on stage that day. Thank you, Bob.   Would you be interested in building another one for me in 2008?      Bart
