Now folks don't laugh when you see my feeble attempt at making a Uke. For those of you who will be attending the ASIA Symposium, it will be displayed <reluctantly> at the New England Luthiers Group table.

If nothing else, it will make you smile!

Wierd, if you squint your eyes, the soundhole/bridge combination almost looks like one of those '70s smiley faces. Ahh, heck, I must be sleepy.
Nice little Uke. I like it. Makes me happy.

I believe you've discovered the whole purpose for my making this!

Tiny Tim would have loved it! Sorry I won't be at ASIA to get the full experience. Nice, Don.

Craig, Iwas thinking about doing that believe it or not!
Just round gold MOP dots with engraved "winks" is what I was thinking. The next one will have to have them!

I'm planning on building a large number of these things and hopefully marketing them through Elderly's or somewhere similar. The more I think about it, what music store wouldn't want one hanging on their wall????

I consider myself fortunate to have been included in the unveiling process of this fine instrument at the NEL meeting last Sunday. Don did not bring it out right away but left it in his vehicle claiming he was too embarrassed to bring it up to the meeting. After a little coaxing, he agreed to get it if we all promised not to laugh at it..
You sucked us right in buddy, hook, line and sinker..
I think you should show a pic of the case too.
I might also add, this Uke has the usual fine craftsmanship we have learned to expect from Mr. Don W. not to mention it plays excellent too.
Thanks Don!

Don, that is too cool!

Made me laugh out loud when I saw it. I'll bet it sounds great too, considering who made it.

Thanks for the kind words folks. I wish I could say it sounds good, but it doesn't! The smile is solid ebony, and is so thick that it inhibits the sound I think. I'm working on a redesign, and I've also added a Uke page to my website...check it out !

Smiley-Uke page

Hey Wade, it was great seeing you again buddy, and very nice meeting your lovely wife. She's as cool as you are!
