I'm a few days away from purchasing some wood for
a Weissenborn . Since I'm a newbie i figured that I
would have the supplier thickness sand the wood for
me. Can I get some opinons on thicknessing
demensions for the soundboard, back and sides?
Thank you.

I'm not familiar with the weissenborn you mention, but for a newbie I would suggest a back @ .125  to .135 and sides @ .100 to .110

A lot of this depends on the wood also. What are you planning on making it out of?

Ron,

I was waiting for others to answer first as my building style is very "eclectic". As the others said a lot depends on the wood for the top and the bracing pattern etc you are going to use. Todd's numbers are pretty good ones. My tops were Sapele and Cuban mahogany and were around 0.12" in the centre where the bridge is tapering out to around 0.09-0.1" at the rim edges.

As Todd says the soundhole area is where you need to think about the bracing. Mind you the soundhole sinking raises the action which can be a good thing with Weisses and you control the intonation via the slide bar. As long as they don't implode they will ususally growl nicely.

Todd - looking forward to the pics!

I have decided yet, but I may use Yellow Siris, which
is a wood that a lot of the forum members have'nt
tried yet.
