Whew!  Here's my first ever, in all its glory.  Building this guitar was a great experience, the learning curve made not so steep thanks to the members of this forum.  You guys all are absolutely super, I love the open exchange of info and ideas here. 

Special thanks to my "almost neighbor next door" Bob Long for answering my many questions along the way.  I saw the Pheasant guitar in the Z-poxy stage...that guitar is beautiful, Bob!

Let's see...what I'll do different next time...smear the Z-poxy across the grain like the directions say, then sand most of it back off!  Couldn't see the high spots until I shot the first coat of lacquer over it.  Will also not mount the tuning machines backwards....doh!.....and I'll press the frets in before glueing the fretboard, thanks again to insights I've gained from this forum.

It's granadillo, sitka, mahogany/walnut neck, red morell burl headplate, padauk/maple/walnut rosette, RW binding, mahogany bracing throughout.

Thanks for looking, will post a sound clip up soon.  Man, I gotta say this thing sounds beautiful!  Very resonant and FULL of harmonics...suprising low end.  Happy happy happy! 

 

hey jon, that is an impressive guitar! i really like the headstock and veneer. did you mention what the fretboard material is? also cool looking bridge. good job man!

Excellent looking guitar. I can't wait to hear it. I wish we could hear all the guitars that get posted on the forum. It would be even cooler to hear them being played on the radio and say 'hey, I know who built that guitar'!

WOW, Jon, that is really impressive.  Fine looking instrument, particularly for a first.  Seeing all these great looking firsts, keeps me on my toes every time I pick up a piece of wood or a tool to make a cut.  Not that I won't make mistakes, but it makes you aware that one can make a fine looking and sounding first guitar, and that awareness produces care and thought in proceeding.

Nice work, Jon! I like the way you handled your rosette, making it look good for the whole 360 deg. So, why the short fingerboard?
