Ditto. Thanks. Some people have a knack for making things look easy.

I happy that everyone is finding this useful. I hope to see more contoured cutaways in the future !!

I did about 6 of these before I worked out the system shown. It was quite a struggle at first. I would glue both sides to the neck block at the same time without the locating pins !!!! Because of the angles, things would slide all over the place on the wet glue, and it seemed to need way more clamps than would fit.  I'm really not sure how I managed to make it work without splitting a side or getting things completely out of alignment !!!

I'm also not sure how one would do this in a traditional outside mold. someone figure that out and post it !!!!

Mark

Mark - this is invaluable. Thank you for taking the time.

I also want to second the request for a description of what to do with chladni patterns... I have found several sites that show detailed images of patterns at all sorts of frequencies, but unless someone can describe what they mean and, more importantly, how to deal with them, they're useless (to me!)

Mark,
Thanks so much for posting this!
I can truly appreciate what you have accomplished to arrive at such a detailed tutorial.
Your tips for dealing with the challenges of the contour cutaway are priceless!

Mark,

Very well done tutorial. Thank you!

There's even some of this I can take away to use on a compound cutaway with an adjustable neck.

I'm going to try to make it work in a female form/mold - possibly a mold with a strategic, removable section at the cutaway. That is, I'm going to try to glue in the neck and tail blocks within the mold. I did one (with wedges to pull the side into conformance with the compound cutaway), but I was flying blind.

Dennis

A year or so ago fellow OLFer, Rollo, emailed me asking about how I do the contoured cutaway. I think it was then that I put together the tutorial I posted here.

Well, he did good with the info.....

Excllent job on the cutaway, but LOOK AT THAT ZOOT!  There is so much figure there it looks like a basket-weave guitar.
