As the title says, my seven string fanned fret project will hopefully have strings within 7 days, all being well.
For now, some progress pictures...
The headstock's rough shaped, and not yet thicknessed

Andrew,

That's looking really nice. Nice combination of woods and I like the elevated fretboard extension. I'll be interested to hear what it sounds like

Wow, very cool Andrew. Lots of stuff going on there with the fan frets, the cool side fretboard markers and the raised and slanted fretboard extension.

Really sweet rosette my friend - well I mean Im loving just about everything on that instrument! The dot markers (if you can even call them dot markers )position markers rather, the negative slope on the soundboard, the fanned frets! everything
Awesome!

That guitar really makes a statement.  Bold, clean design, great lines, innovative approach, but classical beauty.  Very nice.  It is going to be killer when finished.

Looks real cool, if I can say that. I can hardly wait to see the bridge you've designed for this beauty.

Thanks for posting your progress pics.

Andrew, that has the potential to be one of the best guitars I've seen on the forum over the years. I really like the fanned fret system, I've been meaning to build one for some years after trying an 1820s guitar with a slightly less radical fan.

String it up, tune it in DADGad and let us hear it.

Colin

Andrew,
How do you decide what scale lengths to use. What would be 2nd scale of first is 24.9"?

Thanks everyone! You're comments are too kind - it means a lot!

The fanned frets have put the fear of god into me as well! Until I get the string's on I won't be sure how it'll behave, but it's all right in theory.
Fanned frets are a pretty simple concept. Choose 2 scale lengths (in my case 29" on the bass side and 25.5" on the treble), decide which fret you want to be straight and line up the scales at that point. Then just join the dots...

The neck is a laminate of... indian rose/maple/ebony/maple/ebony/maple/indian rose.

Wow, very very nice. Fanned frets--brave and innovative, must have taken a lot of planning. I like the fret markers too.

Thanks again everyone!

I know it's a bit vain and excessive, but I've got some more pics I just can't help myself!
These were taken with a friend's DSLR - man I want one!

I agree with Carlton -- no vanity there -- just pure eye candy.

The tuner buttons are miss-matched at the moment due to some of the ebony ones slipping. It will be sorted soon
