I really like this guitar shape. The body is big and the bridge is placed just right for serious sound. It has a 1 and 13/16 wide nut and string spacing at the bridge is 2 and 3/8 inch. Plenty of room to work

body: honduras rw
top:   Adirondack
binding: boxwood
fingerboard and overlay: ebony
bridge: African Blackwood
Pins: snakewood

Every time I use boxwood binding I am happy with it. Don't know why I don't use it more.

Sorry about the chain saw oil jug.   Just a little shop debris creepign into the picture.

Thanks for looking

John

These 12 frets are my favorites as well and you always do justice to the cause. Beautiful choice of wood and appointments. This is a real stunner, John!

How would you compare this size in sound and tone to the 000-12?

Thanks guys
JJ I think this sounds similar to a 000-12, just more of it, if you know what I mean. Same sweet 12 fret response with more emphasis on the fundamentals but the bass and mids are just so strong and the b and e strings still sing their part. I am really happy with the sound. The guy who bought it used the word "cannon" That's a good word.

John, that is beautiful.  No bling required.  Simple elegance is better to me, and cannon is definitely a good word.

Very Nice, bro.
It does, however, have a bit of bling. A little bit...a nice bit.

Great guitar John. I've never had the chance to play a D-12-D so I guess I'll just have to add it to my to do list. I can just imagine how shifting the bridge to the sweet spot would make it a cannon. That must be one happy customer.

As your Bro noted, nice blending of the neck with the body.

Don't worry about the oil jug. It draws the eye away from the beer bottle.

BTW, Nice guitar!

Looks like some nice bling to me, John. Very tasteful. How about a closeup of the headstock?

Understated bling, John. Hmm. I think thats an oxymoron.

Regardless it's a beautiful looking instrument.

Cheers.

What do you mean "not much bling", any more and it would be arrested on suspicion of drug dealing!
You see, you can carry off the effect because of the quality of you build and the rest of the appointments. I've never built a dreadnaught but with its slope shoulders, 12 fret and slot head, that just looks like a OOO on steroids. I could be converted (just joking)

You know what I think of your crafstmanship John, and this one is up to your usual standards.

Colin

Well thank you guys very much. I think you may have called my hand on the bling. At least the peghead and the fingerboard are unbound. You know I'm just building them the way they are ordered. There is such a movement toward the understated that I did not show the peghead with the torch or the fingerboard with the full D-45 snowflake inlay. Maybe I meant its a traditional looking guitar. That's it, traditional bling encrusted guitar.

The neck is shaded to match the body with just a hint of burst in the center section.

Wow, that guitar is a battleship; look out banjos! I bet it sounds great. Your interpretation of this classic is one of the best looking ones I have seen, the headstock, heel, apointments and so on make it into something more than "just another dread". I agree with you about the boxwood binding, it sure looks smooth.

Thanks guys.
Hesh that rosewood is great stuff. I think Honduras is easily the equal to Brazilian tonally, and sometimes I think its better. Great way to get that rosewood tone without spending tooo much money. You can still get a really good set for under $200.

I love the binding and perfling you used.  It is beautiful.  I would really like to see a closeup of the slothead inlay.  It looks great from a distance.

The Slope Shouldered, 12 fret D style is such a classic, this one looks to be a first rate example. I love the tint on the neck, and I agree about the Boxwood... Very cool, John!!!

Someday I'm going to add a 12-fret slope shoulder to my offering. I hope it turns out half as good as yours, John. It really looks great.
