Yesterday I decided to look at the market for refinished 60's strats. You
know, what if? No, they're expensive too

This morning one of my best friends said he'd brought a '64 strat back
from a friend back home to take in for some setup work. Of course, he
didn't say "setup work," he said, "to see if it can still be played." He didn't
know what this guitar meant. "Yeah, he just wanted me to see if he
should just get a new one. He's had it for a long time."

Inner monologue: Maybe I should offer a couple hundred???

"Man..." is all I said.

"Yeah, it has these nicks. The hardware's a bit rusty." I just kept staring
at the lemonade cooler (we were at church).    And then, finally, I was able
to look at him.

"Ok...first....lets just, you know....lets just take some pictures."

So I'll let you know when we do!

Haha... a guy I work with bought an original Gibson Hummingbird for $75... the guy's Mom bought it for him when he was a teen, and it had an "ugly bird or something on the pickguard".

Same guy just recently scored an '83 American Std. Strat for $100... again from someone that didn't know what they had, other than "an old guitar".

Sheesh... why can't I run across someone trying to unload a gem on the cheap... sure I'd feel bad for taking advantage of the uninformed, but when they set the price I'm not gonna talk them up from there.

Generally, when you cheat somebody (even if you do it at church), it's better to keep the news to yourself....

Gus R.is the only man on the planet that I ever met who had a 64 strat. Got it in basically unused condition, as it was kept in a closet. Think he paid $200 for it. Not sure when he bought it, but I held it in 1984. Wowsers.

Funny that you say that, cause both of those deals he did with people he goes to church with.

John, I wasn't serious about offering him a few hundred.

Yeah, it has a few gaps. And sure, it's asymmetrical. But dangit, it's
something I made!

hehe off topic but I thought

gaps= vertical sound holes
asymmetrical = kasha inspired

I bought a tobacco sunburst '64 strat in 1979......for........Ready.................................. ....$119.00, all original with case.

It played terrible and had "all this rust" on it, so I cleaned it up and traded it, with another guitar, for a Brand new Les Paul Deluxe. The store gave me $300.00 for it.

Woo Hooo!!!!! I tripled my money....At least that's what I thought as a 14 year old kid

But you know what? I still have that les paul, and because of it, I got involved in luthiery!!!!!!!
(It's now a double cut away, although it looks much better now than it did after meeting MR. JIGSAW )
You'll notice in the 2nd photo I still have the piece I cut out as a reminder that one single event can turn your life around!!!!
