Question..
If one uses addi -split into straight-Why can't one use 1/4" bracing. Addi is strong and it is my basic understanding that strength of the brace is produced mostly by height. So, why not?
Thanks,

I see no reason that you can't. Martin has been using 1/4 sitka bracing for years. Look at the D35.

Yep, Martin do it and as long as the brace is tall enough to be structurally sound why should there be a problem. After all, given the compounding effect of strength to height ratio one could very easily over build with 1/4" braces.

Cheers

The widest braces I use (only go up to OM/OOO) are 6mm for the X and upper tone bar, the rest are only 5mm. I usually use Euro spruce for my bracing.

Bob...I've used 1/4" bracing on 7 guitars that included Parlors, OM's, 000's and SJ's. Height has varied depending on top stiffness and voicing choices.

In general, we rookies tend to over-brace.

Remember... the strength increases linearly for increases in width and x^3 for increases in height.

Todd is pointing out a very important point, the stiffness is what increases with the cube of the height which is not the same thing as the strength of the material.

You're right... inaccurate choice of words.
