Ok, I am a little jacked-up on coffee so I’ll bite:

Here are a couple of guitars that I will be bringing to Healdsburg this year. I did not get very fancy, this year so it might be hard to get noticed in the crowd but here goes:

I already posted the 000-12 in Blackwood/ItalianSpruce here before, here is just a couple shots of that one:




Very similar in appointments is this OM. It is made from some really old Brazilian & Italian Spruce that is almost black. I set the white balance on the camera to show what is actually happening in the wood, but in the back shot, the color is really a little darker. (I like that piece of wood)






A cedar topped Brazilian 000 with a 24.9” scale





In the above photo you can also see my implementation of the diamond volute that I have now added. I liked the idea of adding the veneer plate on the back, similar to what James Olson does on his. I asked Jim if he would mind, if I added that style to my guitars prior to implementing that design. With his blessing, it is now a standard feature on all of my guitars.

Here is one of last year’s models that I might bring along too. An English Walnut/Carpathian 000-12.





And if the things go well, I will bring along this Koa Manzer Wedge Jumbo. It is still hangin in the finish area and I plan to take next week off to hang out with the family so it might not make it to the show. We’ll see.

I love the beautiful and subtle detials of your work John. Especially nice is the the book matched head plate overlay. It really adds character to the front of your peghead.

My gosh, the cedar topped brazilian is just SICK John. Wow, if that doesn't get noticed, set the thing on fire and get back on the plane.

These guitars are just Awesome John ! I too really like how you did the rosette matching the F-board. Fantastic wood choices ! I am blown away by your work!

Beautiful guitars. I guess it shows the guitars there are going to be that you could bring instruments that look like that and worry that you might not get noticed. The bar is very high.

Thanks Tim, I probably should have put all the screws in the trussrod cover on the headstock you mentioned, but the guitar has not been set-up yet. Anyway I look forward to seeing you and Mary in a couple of weeks.

Yea, I like that too. It was an afterthought and I have the first fretboard with the purfling sitting under the bench to prove it. Maybe someday I will use it, for something, but it will have to be with a rosette that does not have an abalone ring.

I was trying for a simple elegance in the first 2 guitars. Not too over the top. (IMHO) For me, what I mean by fancy is stuff like this:

It is tough at Healdsburg to stand out in the crowd. If people are not looking for you, or have not heard of you can be just another table with a couple of guitars on it. A certain amount of “bling” can bring someone to the table, but the “real” players seldom really want that. The vine guitar (in this post) was popular at a previous show, I had one player who loved the guitar’s tone and playability but he did not like the “fancy” stuff. He did not want to pay for that stuff. He did not buy it. Needless to say it only sat in the store that had I sold it to for a couple of weeks. Sometimes that stuff sells ... it is a hard call. I think ya gotta know the crowd.
