Recently I posted some pics of a live BRW tree. Someone asked for a closeup of the leaves and I didn't have a pic at that time. Now I do.

they are similar to our Locust trees here on cape cod.

I think the Dalbergia are tropical locusts. The seed pods ane similar, and both are legumes.

Bill - That last comment rang a lot of bells for me, thanks for making the connection. Indeed, locust and dalbergia are the same one step above the genus level. That explains so much.

I have two sets of black locust that I would like to use, except that (1) it is so plain looking, and (2) until now, I had no way to guess much about it's working properties.
Nevertheless, it has a really nice tone, and one of the glassiest surface sounds (you know, when you rub the pieces together) of anything in the woodpile.

Now, I'm guessing the working properties are something like ... rosewood!
