Tim Spittle of Australian Tonewoods is excused from participation because he supplied this bridge blank.

So, for a set of Hesh's very best BRW have a guess (I have not actually checked with him yet but I'm sure it's OK cause he's such a nice guy. ) Anyhow, it is an Aussie native, and like so many of our hardwoods it is harder than ebony and twice as pretty. Not too much of this stuff around though and I only know it's common name.

See told ya it was pretty Anyhow, if Hesh welches on the deal, I'll back up with a prize of 1 tub of finest aussie lard.

Cheers

Kim

Sorry Don, this stuff is even harder than Wandoo and as you can see, very uniquely figured.

Yeah, it's awful pretty too. You Aussie folks have some great woods way up there.
(Whoever told us the the Southern Hemisphere is really South doesn't have a clue that it's exactly opposite in reality...duh. And oc course it means that it's not Down Under, it's really Up Over)

Is that the actual size, or is this a little Photoshop magic?

No Photoshop Don, just been sanded with micromesh and and wiped with DA, what you see is what you get.

Those fine lines that run the length of this little 8" x 1 7/8" bridge blank are not sanding scratches, that's just how fine the grain is. When the figure hits the light it has like a moir effect, sort of like when you touch a soft LCD screen on a mobile phone, it seems to move and has great 3D depth.

Nope, it's not Narra but here is a clue. This is an image of the tree in situ taken as the sun sets.

Nope not Jarrah, this is an image of a curly Jarrah bridge.

And this is a Jarrah log a bloke I know was slicing up a while back. He had to cut a 2' slab from one side so his mill bar could slab it. This is a substantial tree, much bigger that the .......tree that my little bridge blank came from.

Cheers

Kim

Sorry Alex, no lard for you but this myrtaceae is indeed a eucalypti. And it is a mallee scrub tree, to get this hard it must grow slooooow and that means very arid conditions.

Hmmmm, well I'm off to bed so I'll check back in the morning. There is a slender chance that someone will win this tub-o-lard whilst I am having a nap.

Cheers and goodnight

Kim

Alrighty, I must have that tubolard even if i dont have a clue what is it.

So:

Eucalyptus dumosa - Dumosa mallee
Eucalyptus incrassata - Yellow Mallee
E. leptophylla - Slender-leaf Mallee
