No way- is it? Were trying to kill that stuff off down here as fast as it grows. Florida is INFESTED with it. It was put here by some idiot in the 40's to try to dry out the Everglades. Since then it's formed a monoculture and it won't stop spreadung. You can't burn it- spreads the seeds- cut it- grows back, has very wet soft bark, but I hear it's not doing well down under. Is this true? If any luthier want's any let me know- if THATS Malaleuca I have plenty!

I reckon it's one of the 17 or so species of mallee, dunno which one.

Looks a bit light for Myall. Bull Mallee maybe, or Gimlet (is Gimlet a mallee? Grows in the same places anyways).

Craig, getting rid of Melaluecas is easy. Chain saws and bobcats are the go. Ripped one out of my front yard earlier in the year.

Understandably no one has got this yet, it is not a commonly logged tree. One reason is because, as you will notice in the image above, this species of tree is inclined to sprout numerous branches rather than 1 stout trunk making recovery quite poor.

So it is time for some big clues, firstly the English translation of it's Latin name has already appeared in this thread a few times but has not been associated with the species of tree which produced my bridge blank. Secondly, you should look towards your pot of glue, full or empty it holds the clue.

Cheers

Kim

Oh, forgot to add that one of the the other clues was the Latin translation of Gracilis to English being "Slender" hence the "slender chance" and your refferance to the slender leaf malee, so E.Gracilis is Eucalyptus Slender or Yorrel.

Might have to nip out to the shed and dig up something else

Cheers all.

Alex,

You really need to contact Tim Spittle of Australian Tonewoods he is an OLF sponsor. Ask him for a look at some of his Minnerichi fingerboards. Minnerichi is a dark plumy chocolate brown colour, quite often has fiddleback figure and is as hard as you could ever wish for in a fretboard, also it is as stable as steel.

Here is some I cut a while back, this stuff has a few pin holes but Tim's stuff is clean, also the colour in real life is much darker but the flash and wet shelac makes this bit look much lighter than it is.

Cheers

Kim
