I'm in NW Montana, near Eureka. It's about 5 miles south of the Canadian border. I do get up early, and I do enjoy seeing the sun come up over the Whitefish Range.

My wood stove is air tight and it draws its combustion air from outside the shop. The drying effect is due only to the rise in temperature it causes (humidity is relative to temperature). If the stove drew air from the room it would be pulling cold, dry air in from outside. That would cause a big drop in humidity.

Gathering ??? How often does that happen ??

Hi Folks,
You guys really make a man humble for shure!! But that which is more it gives us encouragement to strive for more and better equipment, better workmanship, better woods, and to simply make better guitars You folks are our Heros and our inspiration.

I want to feel comfortable to contact any builder for assistance and not to envy you in a malicious way as to play a negative role!!

We thank you masters of wood, masters of sound and masters of compasion!!!

I think Hesh is just waiting for me to post the pics of my messy shop... I guess somebody has to break the ice?

I get a lot done in there... I have even been known to completely wear out my faithful helper at times too....

Speaking of messy, here's mine this afternoon.

Terry, if I had your shop, it would be my favorite place to hang out too!

Nice pics all!!! Man Mark you certainly have one heck of a view!!!

Well I would post pics of my shop but I am being evicted...
Yup, my wife is making me move all my stuff so she can have a dinning room again. Eating in a dinning room is overrated anyway.

Well now it just means I have to get serious about cleaning out the garage and setting up a real shop. I'll post pics of the new shop when it's ready... someday.

Hey Christian

Does that mean you have to move that new band saw out of the dining room too?  And here we thought your wife was so understanding and supportive.

I don't mean to take this thread off track, but here's one more. This was taken a few days ago standing right outside my shop window.

That looks very much like an erratic to me.

Colin
I'd agree with that....looks alot like greywacke to me.

Okay, here's mine.  It is in the second floor of a 150 year old barn so heating and cooling are a bit of an issue, but I do have the humidity under control.  Since these pictures were taken I have added a Delta 18/36 drum sander.  Next up on the 'gotta have it' list is a jointer.

Those two upper windows are one side of my shop.  They are about a foot above floor level.

Not quite as neat, clean, and dust free as Hesh's shop but it gets the job done.

Yup, the lichen growth in lineations suggest glacial striations-- OTOH maybe it was just hauled in to make the landscape more interesting

That Boulder was dug out of the ground when the previous owner built the "garage" that is now my shop. The white stuff is calcium deposit.

This area was heavily glaciated, though. We are just west of Glacier National Park. There aren't really any true erratics around here, but the whole area is one big glacial deposit.

Some have said that that rock looks like the head of an Orca!!

Funny... Well luckily the bandsaw never made it inside the house. I have to move all my zoot and planes and saws. Not too much, but I must admit the dining room has been a bit unruly lately.

Here are a couple of shots of the new place. It is in slightly more disarray at the moment as I'm scrambling to have a guitar done by Labor Day as a gift for one of my brothers.

The shop itself (sharing space with the washer, dryer, furnace and water filtration system:

Mark--

The civilized side of my family is from Kalispell and Great Falls. The 'other' side of the family (where my name comes from) came from central Idaho. The northwest is truly a gorgeous place.

Well, it still needs a little finishing but you get the idea. My winters project for this year.(no musical instruments) Mother Nature has commissioned a new shop for me with last winters storms that took 6 fair size fir on my property. I'll be milling it in a few days with the help of my buddy and his brand new Woodmizer Mill.
