For those of you that use the bolt on method for your necks, where do buy the bolt with the threads?

I know LMI and the usual places have them, but 9 and 12 bucks plus shipping seems a bit high. I just don't want to pay so much if there is a cheaper route. I want to buy a few sets at once.

Your local Ace Hardware will have the bolts and inserts the hard item to find is Belleville washer. ( dished for spring like resistance) not absolutely necessary but do help to maintain tension on the bolt

John,
I you have a Lowe's nearby, there is a section of the fastners section where they have specialty hardware in drawer boxes. You can find them there as well.

I would not recommend Home Depot for any type of normal screws, bolts, carriage bolts, nuts, etc.  Their stuff is sub-standard.  I now go to a legitimate commercial supplier type hardware store for all that stuff.  The price is not that much different, and when you buy a screw that can be screwed in and removed without buggering up, you have come out ahead anyway.  HD screw heads will strip out with a brand new screwdriver tip that fits perfectly, and carriage bolt shafts are 1/16 smaller than the threaded tip.  Seems like it would be harder to make them that way.

Buy online from McMaster Carr or McFeely's.

Grizzly also has a pair of bolts, washers, and inserts for the guitar neck joint for around $3.00. I don't use these type of bolts on my neck joints though.
