This weekend, I was doing the final setup for the 3 guitars I am building. I got the first 2 done and no major problems. I think their going to be fine. When I started on the walnut OM, I thought something didn't look quite right, so I did a couple of measurements and found out that instead of a 1 3/4 neck width, I have a 1 9/16. AAAAAAAARRRRRGGGGGHHHHHHH .That's way too narrow for me.
My dilemma now is, do I go ahead and set this one up with the narrow neck while I make a new one or just wait until I can get the new one made. Are ther many people who like a neck this narrow. Mario is the only one I have heard of that uses a neck that narrow.

My experience is that the 1 9/16 is pretty common on dreds for strumming and flatpicking. There are also lots of OM's on the martket with the narrower neck. That is one reason lots of OM buyers seek out small builders to get the wider neck. I'm typically a dred player and have no problem fingerpicking on the narrower necks. I guess it is just how you learn and how your fingers are built.Don A38516.5120023148

Just set a bouquet of fresh flowers next to it and advertise it as a "Custom Crafted Ladies Guitar".

I had a guitar a guy ordered with 1-11/16" nut. Well it turns out for a buunch of reasons, I made him another guitar and sold the first one for him. It took a while, lots of people liked the guitar but complained the neck was too narrow.

It will probably suit someone, but it may be tougher to sell.

Do you mean 1-9/16 or 1-11/16? 1-9/16 is very narrow for an acoustic. I sanded down a 1-11/16 neck to 1-5/8. It was too narrow and I ended up making another neck.

Jimmy, I don't mean for this to sound unkind but I'm quite curious: How do you not know the width of the neck until final setup? That seams like a place for you to change your building style and add a couple of "double checks" into it. These aren't the things that you want to wait until they are under paint to find out.

Mike, no it is actually 1 9/16.

Paul, your are absolutely right. I have been working on these for so long, I don't even remember when I tapered this one. It was a replacement from one I screwed up and I was probably in a hurry and just mismeasured and didn't catch it until I started the setup. I guess it's one of those learning experiences.
