Just over a year ago I had a bunch of fret slotting blades made up. Well, they are all gone and I am placing another order. I have tentatively set the number at 50 blades but was wondering what the interest would be (since we have so many new members!) as I want to be sure that I have enough for some stock as well as getting the baldes into the hands that need them. Last time we had them made with a kerf of .0245 +/- .0005 x 6" dia with a 5/8 arbour. They are also truely round within .015". I am able to hold the same price as last year at $43.50 plus shipping. On the new blades I am also narrowing the kerf ever so slightly to .0240 +/- .0005.

These blades are thin and require the addition of blade stabilizers. Most of us have purchased them from Lee Valley for less than $20 for the 5" stabilizers.

So, if there is any level of interest I will increase the order size, otherwise, this will be started next Monday cause I NEED a couple for myself......Delivery is 6 to 8 weeks to me.

I bought one of these from you last year and it is great.
I think you might be missing a zero there. Round with .015" is not very round for a 6" blade.
Should it be within .0015"?

I have had only a bit of feedback from the blades last year and it was all good, so that is encouraging. On the digit slip, I think I got it right at 15/1000". That is still pretty good, and again that is the extreme. If you were to purchase a jewellers saw blade for instance (and people do) the tolerances are about 100% lower, for example the kerf is +/- 1/1000 rather than 0.5/1000.

Oh, please don't make them narrower. I had so much trouble with Stew-Mac fretwire in ebony using their blade, and was so happy when I switched out to yours. If you are truly going to switch, I wish you had stock remaining of the old - I'd buy them all.

Hey Jim,

I only reduced the kerf by .5/1000", it will be hardly detectable. I recall
waht me going to hunt these down last time was the .019 kerf on the
Stew Mac blade. We are still 5/1000 above that. I won't be going smaller.

I can get you a large kerf one as well. Singles will be a fare bit

If you could check on the price that would be great. I was making some calls on this yesterday and the best I could come up with was a 6" x .051 jewelers slitting blade at about $50. I believe a blade like this would have to be reworked, at some additional cost, to get good results in wood, the tooth count was up around 220 something.

Let me know what you come up with,

I'm in. I've been buying pre-slotted boards until now but the kerf is too narrow and I get too much back bow on the fretboard extension.

Why are people running out of these blades? How long do they last? I would expect a blade that was only used for fret slotting to last a very long time.

Hey Mike,

Cumpiano bought a couple of blades from the last batch. The ones
before he said he had for a lot of years. Some people use these blades
and gang them for kerfing linings or for use them to rip purfs and
bindings and any number of other things where a fine kerf is
advantageous. And then others, like yourself, have been buying pre
slotted but want the flexibility to alter scale length or do multi scale or
whatever.
