I'm going to look at some high figure Koa tomorrow! Can anyone tell me the going board foot price of Koa here in the states?

I understand there is several hundred feet of it available... I'll try to get some pictures.

Wow, not sure, but I'm guessing in the $30-60+ range, depending on figure. Maybe more. We would love to see pics so we can get all envious.

If you have a camera, I'd enjoy seeing pics too. It's always fun to see
these things in the big logs and boards.

For high figure, I'd expect closer to $60/ft.

Thanks a lot everybody. This info will be very helpful. I get weak in the knees anytime I'm around beautiful tonewood, but finding this stash of Koa is really exciting. I hope to post pics tomorrow.

Here is one of the boards I got today. I "cherry picked" what was there and I think I got my money's worth.

Can anyone tell me for sure that this is Koa and not Blackwood?

Looks like Koa to me. I'm trying to get a friend who lives in Hawaii to source some out. He's in the building trade so he deals in construction grade woods. It will be interesting to see if he can find a good source. If you don't mind telling, what did you finally paid per board foot?

Thanks

Peter

Koa tends to lean more toward the red side of the Acacias. Taz. Blackood toward the golden side though I have seen some Taz. Blackwood that was darn near as reddish brown as Koa and vise verse The two species are so closely related It is hard to confirm except by where they were harvested from. as Taz Blackwood shows up in sever location in the South Pacific and Koa only in Hawaii

Koa smells like Koa, Taz has different smell, nasty.

At these prices, is money being saved by getting the board and resawing
it?

Thanks guys, I really kind of lucked into this stuff. A guy I know who is a supplier to the gun stock market got it as a large estate purchase. He knew I would like the Koa so he sold it to me to raise money to send his wife on vacation.   Really, that's the story. So, He sold it to me much lower than the going rate... around $30 a foot.

It's a win, win, win, deal... I'm happy, He's happy, and his wife's happy!!!

we just got in $35,000 worth of Koa. Don't know how much per board foot,
but I'd guess in the $75-$125 range for reallly flamed stuff.
