I have not posted in a longgg time! "Real Life" getting in the way of building again, so I was forced to take some time off to build! :)

Here are a couple of rosettes i put together today for some oval hole guitars I am working on. These are made from black & white recon stone with .020 fiber framing them.

I shaped the recon stone using a router and a oval template.

Very cool Russ! Cant wait to see what there going into!

I got the stone from Masecraft.

Masecraft

It is normally used for knife handle material, and comes in a large variety of colors and patterns. If you ask them, they will provide you with a catalog.

Bill Veley at Masecraft is a very good guy to work with, and their prices are very reasonable. I recommend them!

Very nice Russ! I like them a lot. I'm curious how you cut your sound hole and rosette channels for this type of rosette.

I cut the rosette channel and soundhole using a pin router setup similar to the one Mike Doolin shows on his site. I'll put up some pics after it's inlaid and sanded.

You can cut just about any shape rosette/soundhole you like using this method.

Russ the rosettes are beautiful. And the site is most appreciated. Did you use the White Turquoise?

They will cut slabs of the material in the thickness you ask for....I'm not sure about the size of the slabs, but the rosette in the picture is one piece and measures about 4.8" x 2.5".

I used the black turquoise on this one, but I also have some of the "malachite web" and "kingman".

I rough cut the rosette to save the material in the middle for other inlays, and then take it down to exact dimension using plexiglass templates with a flush cut router bit. It machines very easily.
