These two classicals were made for my wife and me to celebrate our wedding anniversary.

Soundboards: Euro spruce or western red cedar
Backs: Ziricote (purchased from Hibdon in 2003 when I lived in St. Louis)
Bridges: Madagascar rosewood
Bindings: Snakewood
Tuners: Rodgers with snakewood buttons
Other features: Elevated fingerboards, V-grafted heads, French polished shellac finish, and soundboards braced with the Rodriguez pattern

Sound and feel: Smooth and lovely voices with the characteristic Rodriguez fullness in the bass and mid range. Trebles retain crispness. The cedar is a canon, and the spruce more reserved. These two are noticeably less aggressive sounding than the last Rodriguez-style guitar I built, a result that I prefer. This may be a result of my introduction of the Byers-style elevated fingerboards, where the soundboards fall away (starting just below the soundhole) from the conceptual plane of the top. Another noticeable feature is a softer feel in the left and right hands, presumably due to the sloped soundboard and/or my change of neck/head angle from 14 to 11 degrees.

Oh, they look lovely!

I’m working on a 000 ziricote with a very similar looking back now. How do you like working with this wood, did you do anything to avoid it cracking or splintering down the line? I have read that some people like to treat the sides with a lot of CA glue before bending; some don’t do anything special and say they have no cracking issues with it…
