Once you have a guitar finished, strings attached and action set, how long do you keep it until you ship it to the client?
I'm curious if you guys hold it for a few weeks to watch for unexpected movement.

depends on how badly my client wants it
I like to have it for a week or so if possible.

Good question Steve. Of the 8 acoustics I've built so far, I have seen very little, if any fluctuation after setting it up. During that first month, however I am often tweaking the TR as well as the saddle. So I guess in my experience I would wait a month after initial setup.

In my part of the country (Midwest) we have widely fluctuating temperature and humidity conditions. On some guitars, I have had to make "winter" and "summer" saddles in order to have the same action throughout the year. If I were selling guitars, I might make up at least one additional saddle for an intelligent and informed owner to change out should it become necessary.

Do you maintain constant humidity for these guitars or let it fluctuate?

In my house, the conditions are fairly constant and the guitars don't require much if any seasonal tweaking. I have a humidity controller room for storing guitars. Those family members to whom I have given guitars are not so diligent. And while they all have case humidifiers, they more often have them on stands. As a result, they are not as controlled and 3 (PA, TX & WI) have required seasonal saddles. So far...no cracks after several years.
