Dave's been working in Colac for the last month and met a bloke down there who said he was just about to cut up some Blackwood trees.

These slabs are from four trees that were growing on top of a disused quarry on a farm in the Otway Ranges.

They were blown over in a storm about 5 years ago and have been hanging in mid air, drying away nicely and just waiting for Dave and I to turn them into guitars.

No figure, but they are straight grained and have some nice dark colour in them. You can see the dark patch on the right hand slab where we planed it off and sprayed some shellac.

We haven't got into the stumps yet so we're hoping that there might be some curly stuff to come.

We should get a few instruments out of this lot.
(We're just trying to catch up with Colin)

I'm so envious Bob. Thats quite a score. My second guitar was made from Tassy Blackwood. I gave it away to a mates Dad. It's beautiful wood to work with.

Bob, that looks a great find, you can't beat a nce straight grain in my mind. You'll have to keep looking though as I've just ordered some more wood!

Bob, just ship the straight grain stuff up to my cousin in Boyland, and I'll arrange for it to be sent over here, you can keep any curly stuff for yourself if you want.

Three trees! The third best guitar I ever played was a blackwood/italian OOO, so you are a lucky guy (forum rules forbid me expressing my true feelings). By the way the second best was a mahogany/Euro George Lowden, and the best, well it was the all polymer guitar made by Loughborough University!

Three more tree...should keep the Geelong lads busy making excellent guitars for some time...What a great score you lucky buggers, but then I recon your just reaping a bit of what you sow M8. Thanks for the red back to help out with shipping to Arnt, came in handy and allowed nicely for a bit of paying forward.
