Is there any type of finish I can spray onto a specialty-wood top?

Like I want a quilt maple or spalt maple top but I just bought a spray gun,
and it sounds like it might go to waste.

what makes a quilted maple top any different to spray versus a quilted maple back?

Any finish that you can spray out of a gun can be sprayed onto wood. Doesn't mean that it's the best finish for a guitar mind you.

You can spray shellac, lacquer, water based lacquers, polyurethane or polyester (there are other's too, but these have been tryed on guitars that's why I mention them). I'd stick with the tried and true stuff for guitars like shellac, lacquer or the polyester or polyurethanes.

I knew you could paint anything on, what I meant was is there something of
comparable quality to rubbing dye? Supposedly the dye gives it a more 3-
dimensional feel, and I wanted to know if there was a spray that did the
same thing.

Are you trying to get the grain to "pop"? I'm a bit confuse about what you are asking.
