I was reading another thread about soundboard and back radiuses and was wondering how different radiuses affect sound. What do different combinations do (15' and 25' as opposed to 25' and 30' for example)? Is it a bad idea to build the top and back with the same radius? Is there some type of scientific explanation for the differences? Thanks again.

you add the dome to give strength to the plates. The flatter the top the easier it is to fit all thing up like fretboard to bridge relationship. Therefore top have a much larger radius (nearer to flat) than backs.

as you may know many renaissance string instruments have gourd shaped back. I am sure there is some influence on tonal projection. I am not the person to answer how much.
