There is a type of purfling that I need to locate.
I've gotten started on a guitar, and need more of this type to finish. (Had much less that I thought. Doh!)

Anyway, it originally came from ILS (Tulsa), but I can't get them to answer their phone to save my life.
It is/was a violin purfling. Not the standard b/w/b, but a rarer w/b/w. The dimension is a tad different than usual guitar purfling as well: it's c. .050" wide, the critical measurement. Something like .060-.065" tall, but that's not important.

Does anyone have a source for this white/black/white .050" purfling? I looked at Gurian, and can have some built, w/ something like a 465 piece minimum. That would make me comfortably set for the next couple guitars, but would drain off funds needlessly.
Any ideas? Thanks in advance,

Steve

Bob, I need to check it for sure, but I'm fairly certain you are correct.
I was glancing at your site, and noticed you've got some maple fiber veneer. Did I read that correctly? Because this purfling that I need to match is not the bright white, but a little creamier white. Not much, but a little.
Would your material match that??

Thanks guys,

Steve

Steve,

I have had some viola purfling from Touchstone Tonewoods here in the UK. It is 0.050" wide by 0.070" tall (approx). I had bwb but I know they carry wbw for guitar purfling and may have it in the same size viola purfling. I'll get a photo of the bwb purfling up here later to show you colour. If you draw a blank in the US let me know and I can ask them at Touchstone.

Steve mine is a little off white or eggshell. If the thickness is correct I could make you a glue up a couple of inches wide and you can cut your own.

Dave, Bob, thanks amigos.
I measured a scrap piece this a.m., and was a bit surprised to find that it is actually about .054".
And, it's oriented like this: .017=white, .020=black, and another .017 white...total .054".
Weird, huh? Bob, if you do a glue-up, could you also cut the strips for me? I.E., do you have a successful way to do that? Why not send me a PM and we can take this "outside".

Again, thanks friends.

Steve

The solution:
I called International Violin Supply as Todd suggested.
They had exactly what I need, and are shipping me out a gob of it while I type this.

Thanks for the help, my friends.
I had a feeling you'se guys would steer me right.

Steve
