Spent the afternoon spraying McFadden's on these pieces. An SJ cedar with Indian Rosewood for my son. Five coats today, five a few weeks back, and I imagine about two or three more ought to do it.

This guitar is after an Olson, and has adirondack bracing. The fb is ebony with style 45 inlays. Oh, one side note, this neck is the other half of the OLF FOLK neck that John Kinnaird shaped and fitted. Bobsie Twins.

The other neck is a five string bass neck, previous coats were amber tinted, todays were clear.

That's about it. Done on this for a week I suppose. Thanks for looking. bd

I'm going to have to try a cedar top on one of my upcomming builds. That looks really nice!

yeah, this is just a really great, classy looking guitar. i love the way those maple(?) and rosewood(?) laminations look popping out the top side of your headstock. good job bruce. does your son know about it or is it a surprise?

Blain, this is my second cedar, the other was a dred. Don't tell Colin.   

Heath, you must be talking about the five string bass neck. It is: German Hornbeam, African Purpleheart, North American Birdseye Maple, with 2 Carbon fiber slats and a 2 way truss rod. The 34 inch board is Madagascar Ebony or Macassar, I forget. It's purdy.

Todd, Hehe, I did wear my mask. You know your mask isn't working if you do smell it. Thanks for reminding me to go turn off the exhaust fan.

Now it gets some time to harden before sanding again.

Heath, Yes he's known since we started it. He picked out the best piece of Rosewood in the shop, a nice cedar top, the fretboard, and specified wood flamed-maple bindings, a first for me.

Warren helped me build the OSJ Mold back in March of '04, so you can see this has been in the works and on the back-burner for a long time. He recently graduated from college, summer term grad, so getting it done became more of a priority.

This will require a case made to fit it, but since Olson used TKL cases years ago, maybe they'll have a pattern that will fit this one.

I did epoxy fill on this one. It definitely needed more filling though, because there is still just a little pore showing through the lacquer, especially at the shoulder on the back. Aggravating.

These garage pics are horrible, just was so happy to get this much done! I have a great backlog of guitars in my shop and in my head to get going, so maybe with this one leading the way, the dam will break.

Hey that reminds me of the Label inside Collings Guitars, the river with guitars floating downstream. I understand!

By the way Todd is right, if you can smell the lacquer folks then it's doing you no good. I remember way back in the late 60s we were being taught about some solvent or other, wasn't paying much attention ther were some rather pretty girls sitting on the grass outside, but one of the other students asked what it smelled of. The reply was no-one knows, the only people that have smelled it didn't live to tell. All solvents are bad.

Thanks guys. I'm really excited to get this one done and out of the shop. A young man really deserves this one. (I wonder if my upcoming grandbaby will play guitar......)

I really like Rosewood, this was a premium set from LMI I've had at least seven years.
