Can someone please tell me the different tunings for a Baritone, Soprano, and Tenor Uk? I know one is A,E,C,G hi to low but I don't know for which type. TIA

The "standard" tuning (call re-entrant) is gCEA. The G string is the next
so smallest string, and the C string is the largest. You can also tune it
GCEA with eh G being low, but that is not as traditional, and used one
most sopranos, concerts, and tenors. This is also called C Tuning.

Baritones are normally strung DGBE like the 4 bottom strings of a guitar.

Another tuning is D tuning which is A D F# B

Can anyone explain the differences between the Soprano, Tenor, and Baritone? Tuning as well as construction? In other words does a Soprano always get tuned to a particular tuning, A baritone same etc. Will a Tenor Uk explode if tuned to a Soprano or just sound bad/funny?Dave-SKG38531.4678819444

Dave,

The tuning on a soprano, Concert, and Tenor is the same. All tuned gCEA
or the other variants with the exception of dgbe which is not normally
seen on the smaller three ukes. The difference is string gauge. Soprano
is the smallest gauge, and it goes up from there, but for the most part
you can use concert strings on a soprano as well.

Baritone strings are different.

and as far as construction differences between the three smaller ones, a
soprano does not have any fan braces, just a bridge plate and two braces
by the soundhole. A concert can either have no fan braces as well or
sometimes people use very light 2 or 3 fan braces on them. Tenors have
three fan braces. Scales are different, and body sizes are different ( again
see my site for all that info).

Dave, Didn't you mention you ordered "Left-Brain Lutherie" by David Hurd? If so look in the first chapter, it gives the tunings and frequencies for 4, 6 and 8 string ukes.
