The forum seems to be running a lot faster than before.

Hmmm, that's funny, it's taking me longer and longer to go back to the main page since this weekend.

Maybe something is wrong with my PC, but everything else seems to load as fast as it did before.

I agree Dave About two weeks ago I did a tune up on my machine and things at OLF (and elsewhere) were good. Running better than ever. Since the "upgrade" here at OLF last weekend, I'm running slower than ever. No trouble anywhere else FYI.

Dunno....

The DNS number changed. Maybe you are taking a different path.

Do a tracert www.luthiersforum.com from a command prompt and see how many "hops" it takes and how long it takes to jump from point to point.

That might shed some light on it.

I have tried it on several ISPs and it seems really fast.

Brock, it takes about 13 hops to get me to the forum. I think that is pretty normal going through the cable modem.

I just want to clarify one thing. I can get to the main page very quickly, it is when I go to the main forum that things slow down. I haven't timed it but my wait is probably about the same as Roger's.

Just an FYI.

Did you do a tracert? Try that. .... the internet is about a lot more than YOUR connection speed to the net and YOUR hardware. It is a common misconception that you can simply improve your end and get better results from the net. That is only one small part of a larger equation.

how many hops are you seeing. Is there any of these that has much higher times than the others?

It's also taking me 19 hops, but there is a delay in the page load when I hit the back button from here. It will load the top of the page (that above the topic listings) then pause for awhile, then finally load the topics. It does this very consistently.

By contrast, when I hit the link to come to the forum (this page: http://luthiersforum.3element.com/forum/default2.asp) it loads very fast

It acts a bit like the delay is in assembling the current data base. That's what it looks like from here anyway.

Well...

In the interest of full disclosure, it (the delay) didn't happen this last time. Time of day? Me?

Getting from my home to here... http://luthiersforum.3element.com/forum/default.asp 13 hops. And I might add almost instantaneous. (2 sec)

From there to here... http://luthiersforum.3element.com/forum/default2.asp
Almost instantaneous.

From there to the forum, completely loaded 10-12 seconds. After I post this message and hit my back button once, this messege re-displays almost instantly. Hit the back button one more time and 10-12 secs to "reload" the forum. So just that one page Is where everyone's concerns lie.

It's just the amount of time it takes to load the forum page. It's always been a wee bit sluggish on that, but it's just more noticable now.

BTW I'm not ich about it just pointing it out. If it's no big deal for you, it's no big deal for me.

I know you are not ich... but you know how it is, if you can't see the problem it is hard to imagine what the root of it is....

Here is another thought.

For those of you running slow what browser software are you running?

For those of you running fast, what software are you running?

Lately I have been seeing performance differences between IE, Netscape, Firefox, etc. I wonder if the page rendering might be the culprit.

If it is just that one page, I am thinking that perhaps it has something to do with the assembly of that page.

I will look into it.

It is loading faster for me today than it was yesterday. I am no longer getting the "pause" that Jerry described in the above post. Probably 4 to 5 seconds from hitting the back button to the main forum page loading.

Maybe the DNS mapping is getting itself worked out and the times from one hop to the next are getting shorter. Guess I could run tracert again and see if I can tell any difference.

I'm running IE, and yes, that pause seems to be gone today as it was the last time I checked it last night.

Absolutely no complaints though. The memory of this last Lost Weekend is still vivid.

Brock, I just wanted to make it clear that I am not complaining either. Just wanted to provide as much info as I could so you can have more to work with.

After no access for a couple of days, who cares if it's a little slower when it comes back! At least it's back.

I was starting to get the shakes and was sweating a lot. I'm all better now.

Oh I know... I understand the spirit this is intended in.

It is helpful. I can't fix what I can't see.

Well I really don't have any more to say about this but you see I'm getting close to 100 posts so I thought I'd take advantage and say I'm running an SBC Yahoo browser. I think it's a mutilated IE not real sure.
