Hi...Rookie again
When you have a cut piece of pearl that you are going to put in the
headstock, what type of glue do you use to hold the piece on so you can
trace the outline, and get if off without breaking it.

They both come off easily wuith Acetone. Just don't try scribing until it is totally dry. About 2 hours at least.

So do I. A wee drop of good 'ol Elmer's white, and the inlay will be quite firm in 15 minutes or so. And it lets go easily enough.

Ussually though I glue down a paper with the shape on it. Mind you any inlay work I do isn't much to shake a stick at. I claim it is because I don't like inlay on guitars. Truth be known I am just bad at inlay.

   Once you develop some skill a simple metal scribe will do. I hold my pearl in positon with that and then use a pencil .3mm and trace the outline.
    I use my air router at 70000 rpm to cut the wood for the pearl. MSC has decimal end mills that are as small as .005. That is tiny.
