I'm currently building a fairly small (24" x 24") Go-Bar deck. What would be a good number of fiberglass bars to start with?

Also, are there any advertizers on this forum who sell them (and the rubber tips!)? I'd rather spend it locally

Id say get a dozen to start with - at least -
That would allow 6 per brace when gluing an Xbrace down.

I use the Lmi fiberglass bars. I use my deck for bracing tops and back, as well as gluing the tops and back onto the rim. I think I have 30-35 rods and that is probably the max I will need. With this number I can glue all the braces on the back at one (you don't need 30 to do that). I found I needed about 30 to sufficiently clamp the top or back when gluing them to the rim. You could probably get away with a few less, but this is working well for me.

I have a dozen fiberglass rods I bought at Home Depot that started out life as driveway reflectors. I cut off the reflectors and bought plastic tips for them in the hardware section. I plan on making more since it seems I never have enough. I also have a dozen cut to length for gluing backs and tops to the sides. I don't know where I read this but it also is a good idea to glue some old carpet scrap to the underside of the top of the deck to help keep the go-bars in place, those things have the potential to become dangerous projectiles.

Try putting the plastic tips only on the end that goes against the guitar.

Hello, I just registered. I am an experienced woodworker just about to build my first guitar. I have all? my jigs, tools, and templates ready to go. I'm posting here because I found the best source of go bar rods available, I think.

I got the 3/16" first because that seemed to be the sizes supplied by LMI and /or StewMac. But, because they were so cheap (and good) I bought 15 of the 1/4" size and enough tips for 30 rods, then cut them all in half and made 30 rods 24" long, which is good for my set up. The 1/4" rods are pretty stiff and I will be able to also use them for general glue ups as well as for the guitar. I used my band saw to cut the whole bundle in half at one time.

Just thought I'd let you know. I bought 18 - 3/16" x 48" rods and 50 endcaps. Total cost WITH shipping: $35.80.

This is because of further dicounts due to volume!

I got my last batch from into the wind, quick service, nice product, no problems.

I get mine at Home Depot, the 48" 3/16" fiberglass driveway reflectors. I get two 23 3/4" bars out of each at 2.00per reflector. But then again I goofed when I built my deck and bult the opening at 23 1/2". I use the reflectors I cut off as targets to sight in my rifel with MichaelP38538.6368865741

I also use the Home Depot driveway reflectors. I looked everywhere for
cheap fiberglass and I couldn't find it long enough. the home depot version
works well, just cut off the deflector. For my deck I used threaded rods so
that I can adjust the height of the top. Then, it is never too short.
