My condolences join John's. I fear this marks the beginning of a new level of terrorism aimed at random civilian targets.

I want to offer my condolences also. My 1st thought was of the many good friends from the UK we have here at the OLF and their families. I hope all is well.

On behalf of the UK OLFers (I think that's three of us) can I thank you all for your kind thoughts.

In normal times I would have been on the London underground system at that time on my way in to work at the University. As you know however I'm out in Sumatra at the moment but I have checked in and all of my colleagues and students are fine as far as we know.

My Brother-in-law, a Professor of Microbiology at the School of Tropical Medicine, was stuck underground in a train for an hour or so but is OK. The death toll so far is 33 and is expected to rise. London is used to terrorist bombs having in the past had the IRA setting off big car and lorry bombs. So we have systems in place that faultlessly start running when something like this happpens and they seem to have done this time.

Everyone will be very "British" about it and just dust themselves off and get on with it. We can't let them win by rolling over! We had been waiting for it and I guess the G8 conference was the trigger. Still at least we've got the 2012 Olympics to look forward to!

Thanks again for your kind thoughts.

Colin

Amen to all the well-wishes. Colin et al, we really admire your British pluck, and know that all will be well as you say. Still, having been through our own ordeals, we empathize w/ you.

My condolences as well. Hopefully no one here has to deal with having a loved one killed or injured by this attack.

Glad to know your friends and students are all fine Colin.

I'll add my condolences also.

Colin, I thought of you last night when the news came through. It occurred to me that being in Sumatra might have been a lucky escape for you. Glad to hear all the pom OLFers are ok.

We're still waiting to hear if all my wife's relatives over there are ok, I guess we'll find out today.PaulB38540.8077662037

Your Wishes are very much appreciated, I have spent most of the evening on the Telephone checking every one I know is ok, fortunately they are, but my thoughts go to those people who have lost someone.

We will not be swayed by the actions of terrorists.

I don't get the news paper nor do I watch much TV so this is the first I have heard about it. We will keep this cowardly act and those effected by it in our prayers.

I certainly am sorry for your losses there. Although I recognize the source, I sometimes do not understand how so many can be driven to hate so much.

I think, in addition to the prayers from all of us towards the entire British population at this time, there should be an acknowledgement of the civil responses posted by all the OLF'ers. On another newsgroup (rmmga) some twit troll immediately went into a "what do you expect, capitalist pigs, colonial exploiters, yada, yada, yada" rant. TOTALLY INAPPROPRIATE!    Wrong time, wrong place, wrong message.
Thanks to all here who have the common sense decency to know how to respond in times like these.
I really feel for the families of the victims, It's just terrible that terrorist seem to always focus their attacks on innocent victims.
I think that is sort of the point... they attack "soft targets" because they are easy and cause much suffering. I think the PR is more than half of the goal with these attacks.

The thing that really "gets" me about these terrorists is that they hide behind the veil of religion. There is nothing remotely religous about what they are doing. They are simply striving for chaos and use religion as a tool to galvanize their membership.

I am an optimist by nature, I (generally) believe that there is good in every person -- but the more of this I see, the more I come to realize there are truly some bad seeds on this earth.

They need to be hunted down and dealt with.

Amen to that Brock!

Religion in any form is no excuse to go out and murder a bunch of innocent people.

Not to stray to far afield but lately the difference between Religion and Dogma has become quite clear.
