Hi all,
I just finished a d-word guitar and was wondering what people are using for the tortoise type guards.
I usually don't put pickguards on my instruments, but I think I want to on this one since it's a "strummin"type of guitar.

John Greven's TorTis pickguards are the best looking ones available IMO.

Here's the link if you haven't seen them...

Yep Grevens. Expensive, but worth it, and they're nice than any others I've seen.

Thanks Andrew and Bill,
I am familiar with the Greven Tortis guards-they are very nice.
The only thing is that they seem a little thick-LMI's website lists them as .035-.045 thick.
Thanks,
Brad

That's somewhat thick, relatively, but it's still quite light and in a not-so lively area. I've never heard a tone difference when adding the pickguard.

Why can't you just come out ad say Dreadnought?

Slap a pickguard on that baby Brad.

I like the Sony adhesive backed ones from LMI.

I just got some from AllParts and they are curled at the edges, bummer, but they were cheap.

Who wouldn't love a Greven guard! Oh so nice.

Kirt, I know you meant Dreadnought, Dreadnought, Dreadnought!!!

That is Martin's spelling, saw it on their site just this week. It's official DREDN"O"UGHT!

I wonder how many dreds they've built?

Brad,

You can get an original Martin pickguard (tortoise beveled) from John Hall at Blues Creek Guitars or the Martin 1833 shop on North Street in Nazareth. They run about $20+ and look very nice!

Yeah, I am sort of mystified by that too. I think it originally started as a joke, but then somehow took on a consistant usage...

I like dreads.

Oh the horror.......

OK without sounding to much like Nixon here I take full responsibility but not the blame........

The d****n****t thing was here on the OLF when I got here and I picked it up from others.  So I didn't start it and some of my best friends are d****n****ts too.

Like many of you I love all guitars but if given a choice would prefer to date an L-OO or an OM......

3 posts with relevant input. 93 posts about nothing. It's like the OLF of old....(not that that is a good thing)

I admit to trolling, here; I made the comments just to see how many would bite. As excepted... <g>

carry-on!

Mario you're the only person I know who takes delight in being called a grumpy troll...which I kinda like that about you.

I'm planning to use a clear pickguard on the one I'm building. This way I can show off the nice Lutz top.
