Hey Guys....Is there a place where you can buy custom made headstocks.....Maybe , when I am as as rich as you fellows I will buy a CNC machine ........Looking at something simple,,Maybe....
...Labrador Guitars" with the emblem of the Labrador spruce twig underneath.....Just toying with the idea....Nothing worse then a blank headstock....Kind of like have a baby with no name....Larry

Larry,

If you can inlay there is also Andy DePaule. He will take your are and have his guys cut the shell and provide it to you. His prices are really unbelievable for the quality of work. But he only supplies the cut shell not the shell pre inlaid. Andy makes all my logos and custom cuts shell for custom inlays. The turn around is usually about 3 weeks. But like I said you would have to do the inlaying.

This may seem like an overly daunting task at first but it really is not that hard, Like most tasks in lutherie it more a matter of taking your time and being patent.

With the exception of the big order guys (100 necks, that sort of thing), headplates are something like 2/3 of my orders from luthiers. There are prices on the website, and photos of some of the plates and logos I've done for others on here and elsewhere.

I make some pretty nice logos for some of the members here.

That's Peter Marreiros' logo in brass, MOP, and abalone. I also made the pocketed headplates for him, but the logos came in a few different colour combinations so I sent them uninlaid so he could combine them as he chose.

The outlines are milled in one piece from brass plate. You can get the plate at most hobby shops. The stuff I used was 1/16" to start then I milled it down to 0.05".

I just wanted something very simple for my guitars and John Watkins did a great job on mine - I could not be more pleased.

The second pic is of a BRW head plate that was/is fitch matched to the set that I used on the BRW guitar that I just finished.  I book matched the head plate, sent it to John, and in no time at all I had a perfect match for my BRW guitar.
