As 2008 approaches I am thinking about what my own learning and building goals are.  As part of a two thread post I thought it would be interesting to ask the members what topics you would like to see more of on the OLF.

Although it's impossible for me to think of everything that might be important to you I thought that I would give it a shot.

If your topic is not listed above please add it below in this thread.

If you had to pick the very most important topic of interest to you what would it be - please cast your vote in the poll.

The first choice that I listed in the poll fell off the map when I hit "post" and it was set-up - new and existing instruments.

So one vote from me for set-up discussions.

bracing - structural and tonal concerns are always important to me and I assume always will. In particular ones that deal with voicing techniques.

I know, I know!  I can't have my cake and eat it too....

I would like to vote for more than one...

Set-up, first guitar, bracing, repair, woods, voicing... the list goes on.  If I had to choose one, it would be voicing.

Oh boy...for me it was the flying butresses that free the upper bout for tone and the adjustable neck that did it for me. I've spent ages studying and trying out these methods as well as studying bracing design.

Jigs jigs jigs jigs... well and everything else.

  for me its " guitar making "  LOL     since I still need to learn about everything .... !!  actualy I think the biggest mystery so far ( hence my vote ), which seems even difficult for the most astute experts to define is structure and tonal qualities. Jody

I voted for jigs but I wouldn't mind seeing some stuff on the double tops and sides. I have read some stuff on this but there is not a lot out there on this new style. I find it very inetresting and would like to learn a little more on it.

Actually, there were three total I would have liked to vote for. However, since I can only do one,
I have to choose repair. I want to get my repair business up and running this year.

The other two, would have been, Lutherie as a business, and Tools and Jigs.

Since I've only been building Classicals and Flamencos.... not Flemencos (must be Flemish from Finland... ) and I'm about to embark on my first SS builds, I'd like to see a fairly comprehensive tutorial on the best methods to plan and install a truss-rod; from routing to assuring that it doesn't rattle. I know that it sounds pretty basic but since I've not done it before, I'd like to benefit from those who have.
