Great thread Hesh!

In 2008 I hope to finish the following:

1) Build No.1 for myself.
2) Build No.2 as a gift
3) Continue to refine the building process (jigs, fixtures, etc)

I'd like to:

Finish the guitar I'm working on (#2) and also hopefully finish one more in 2008 as well.

Better understand the final setup process

Build a differnt size guitar for #3 (I'm thinking an OM per the OLF plans)

Better organize my shop and strive to keep it clean (although not near as clean as Hesh's)

Resaw the Curly Maple that I have and hopefully get 2 Back & Side sets out of them.

Build a fret slotting jig for the table saw.

Contribute to the OLF for a change (as opposed to being the one always asking the questions).

And just all around improve on my building. (Of course I have plenty of room for that).

Who's next?

Back up and finish the OM and the Irish Bouzouki that got left in the dust when I started working on classicals. Overall, I'd like to learn how to voice my classical guitars better (and finish 2 or 3), and clean some of the old partial builds out of the shop.

My goals are fairly modest.  I want to build four guitars, all with jatoba back and sides and topped with lutz.  They will all be 12 fret, 00 sized bodies.  They will be my first from scratch and a vehicle to work out some bracing ideas.  I've accumulated the zoot and just need to get/make a bender.  I also want to begin a systematic method of deflection testing -- I think that I have about settled on the routine and then put the data into a little home brew database.

My main guitar building goals for 2008 are:

Work safely...IE have no accidents.

Finish guitars number 4 and 5.

Improve my french polishing skills.
Learn how to pore fill using pumice.

Expand my stock of tools, and jigs, and learn how to use them.

Sell at least one guitar.

Improve my wood work skills.

Learn how to do a slotted headstock.

learn about timbers and their acoustic properties.

Make a classical guitar.

Aside from retiring from my day job I'd like to build two OM's. One for me and the other for by brother-in-law. He was here over the Thanksgiving holiday and did a lot of ooohing and aahhhing looking at my guitars and my woodpile. I have yet to build a steel string, only classicals. I'm sure that I'll be asking for advice along the way.

There's always more to learn and more than enough to do.

For this year I hope to:

-finish my current build at a marketable level and start promoting my work.  I gotta get this guitar out of my head so that I can focus on "work" again.

-study with Daryl Perry(already started talking about it...)

-build for money so that I'm not stealing time from work which pays the bills.

-build two 605mm Torres guitar for my daughters.

-continue work on the viola da gamba for my wife.

-buy some "real" tonewood instead of pilfering from my canoebuilding stock.

Good tip Robbie.I`d just like to find the time to get into the shop more often.Of course I seem to find plenty of time to play and sing my butt off.

1. Thoroughly clean and reorganize my shop.
2. Build a flamenco guitar that I will feel confident in taking to Spain for a flamenco workshop.
3. Build my first classical guitar.

To finish # 4,5,&6, and reorganize my shop.

I have some very very lofty buildings goals (mostly because of the limited time due to other events for the year)

I have 5 guitars I want to have finished by next Christmas.

3 are already started, 2 of these have the body totally together and just need necks than finishing, so maybe it's not to out there to get all 5 done in 12 months. We'll see.

Currently, I have a run of two OM's and a dread to complete. After that, I need to set aside time to properly get my shop set up (put on hold at Sweetie's request in order to get the OM's built). Then I'll knock out a partition wall, run conduit and dedicated circuits, fluorescent lighting and get my DC hooked up. Man, I need that DC while thickness sanding!

My educational goals are to get a better understanding of voicing and improve my setups.

My goals for the new year are to finish constructing all of the necessary jigs for guitar building. There seems to be too many at this point. I've spent the past eight months working on them in the evening and I can finally see light at the end of the tunnel.

I'm going to finish my humidity/temp. control room for tonewood storage, and I want to complete my first build in curly maple. After that I will start 3 builds at the same time for friends who are pitching in the cost of materials, and a $300 donation towards the cost of tools to keep my wife from complaining about how much money I'm spending. She seems to think that I could have just bought a new guitar for the cost.

OK! The following is a bit of “pie in the sky” wishful thinking, but I’m going to give it a go!

1. Finish guitar #2. (No problem here)

2. Build harp for my wife.(Yep, can do!)

3. Build a violin. (Bit of a stretch)

4. Build archtop prototype. (Way BIG, bit of a stretch)

5. Complete Label/Logo.

6. Get website up and running.

7. Get repair business started.

Well, I guess that’s enough for one plate!!!

I told a friend the other day that I;ve spent most of my life doing what I wanted to do rather than what I should have been doing, so now I'm having to pay the price by getting back to school and finishing up my degree. If I ever want to build guitars in my retirement, I need to actually be able to retire!

i also have my m blackwood/redwood om to finnish (nearly there) and my
cocobolo/master grade bearclaw om with florentine and fan frets
finished.

i have also just started a comision for a very very famous uk singer who i
cant name.
which is an epiphone cortez copy in master mad rose/master alpine
spruce with 150 year old cuban mahogany neck and snakwood binding.

i just finished the mold for tht so i will be bending the sides in earlt 2008.

This looks like a good spot for my first post. I have been lurking for quite a while.  In 2006 a got a D-kit from LMI and a walnut B&S from RC Tonewoods.  The original plan was to use the kit for a guide while building the other from scratch and complete the two together. With lack of a dedicated space, that did not work.  The kit is about 90% complete, just need to complete some final details and then sand and finish. Hopefully I can finish this in early 2008 and get to work on that Walnut.  That is my goal anyway.

As for building goals, and only having finished 1 guitar, I am concerned with getting the basics correct.  I have 2 more started (a sapele dread and a myrtle grand auditorium) so I want a good fit on the neck joint and a better job at finishing by hand (still thinking about Tru-Oil/satin KTM9 and trying FP). 

Would be nice to finish these 2 and maybe one more in my spare time....

about my goals, i'm hoping to build another three next year. likely two OM's and another grand auditorium (if the current GA delivers). i'll be giving lutz a try. and some flamed myrtle and flamed walnut. my first chances to use some really blingy stuff - so that's going to be fun.
i'm going to rebuild my OM outside mold because the current one is way too heavy to enjoy using.
i might try a cutaway.
and i'd love to get to a few gigs where some of my guitars are being played.
like others, i too would like to improve fit and finish, but i have so little time in the workshop and can't see slowing things down to a crawl just to putz around with stuff that only another builder with a mirror and flashlight would see. so i will likely continue trying to improve speed and accuracy at the same time. wish me luck.

These are great goals folks.

I have two that involve the OLF members.

1.) Encourage the completion of the OLF Friends of Lance Kragenbrink Guitar Project.

2.) Encourage the completion of the OLF #2 Guitar for the Secret Recipient who is involved in the guitar industry.

I got tickled by mine from last year.... Okay, Delivery of both in 2008! Do I hear an Amen?
