Amen Bruce!!

I'm taking a break from building acoustics for awhile so that I can complete the 2 electrics I started many years ago.

I'm hoping that with the new software that we'll have a section for electric builds...otherwise, I will be seeking input from other forums.

One goal I will personally pursue is that I will keep myself from entering into the frays on the OLF. We occasionally have debates that turn nasty...feelings get hurt and rash decisions are made. Developing greater respect for others as well as developing thicker skin would be a goal that all of us could benefit from.

I never thought I'd say this but after 4 years, I need the security of input from the pros far less than I used to. It's to their credit that I say this, BTW. A few have inspired and taught me enough so that I feel much more independent in my further pursuits. They know who they are and I thank them. And in the spirit of "giving forward" I plan to help those in need who seek to work hard and approach the craft with an open mind and a willingness to extend their horizons.

JJ, The OLF has an Electric Forum, it's called OFF TOPIC.

Check out the great TELE thread going on now. I slimmed down a Japanese AllParts neck and sprayed on the SS and Lacquer. It puts the body finish to shame. So now, I'm going back to lick that calf over again.

Just in time for Santa! This one's mine! But I'd rather have a violincello....

    I'm hoping to actually be back to work at full capacity and earning a living
again in 2008 and to recover from my,oong layoff last year. In the
meantime, I'm organizing the shop and chipping away at things according to
the hours my shoulder will allow me to work each day.

   It'll be a better year than 2007.....not much has to happento make that a
reality.

Nah...I'd prefer to see a fully supported Electric Section so that we can attract folks who have the kind of chops that will make this a successful learning experience. I've made 2 very basic electrics so far but the 2 I've started are far more complex and I need help.

No big deal...other forums are already set up for electrics and it's possible that there isn't enough interest with the current OLF membership.

L&B might wish to do a little market research before committing to budgeting space for electrics.

Why would electrics be off topic? Or mandolins, or violins, or anything wit strings for that matter? While this forum is very heavily acoustic guitar influenced, it is a "luthiers" forum, and that encompasses everyone.

I'd welcome new threads on various instruments here; many of us build more than just acoustic guitars.

I guess my forum goals for 2008 will be to stop trying so hard to steer everyone I can touch to be the best they can be, and instead make more friends.

My shop goals are to continue to chip away at the backlog, make ends meet as best they can, continue to develop a more jazz-oriented mandolin, and at some point, build myself a guitar again(I'm down to just my original...). Oh, and make some furniture for the home....

But first, we must survive the "holidays"

I agree with Grumpy.  I like reading about other instruments, electrics, b***o's, mandolins, violins, etc., even though I have not built any of them.  Just because I don't build 'em, doesn't mean I'm not interested.  If more people post electric builds and threads, others will find us.

Oh, also, Grumpy, keep pushing! Excellence requires (poetic license) a stern taskmaster, and your pushing will make some of us better than we could, otherwise, be!  Also, we'd hate to have to start calling you Doc, or Barney !

JJ, I'm sure Electrics would be welcome, like Grumpy says, it's nice to see something different now and then. A lot of folk don't even frequent the "odd man out" forums. I rarely go to CNC or other ones myself. No interest.

When Lance started the OLF it was the LTAG forum, Let's TAlk Acoustic Guitar. So it's original focus was fairly narrow.

 I guess I need to clarify. I'm vowing to no longer push things. As soon as someone gets upset, I will simply put the thread on ignore instead of keeping at it to get the point across. But that doesn't mean I'll not speak up; it just means I'll speak it once or twice then ignore the rest of the hoopla <bg>

My goals for 2008 are pretty simple:

1. Finish whats on the workbench (harder than it sounds because I keep getting orders for other things and work has been insane).

2. Finish all my jigs this year on the CNC.

3. Finish my electric guitar design and get a working prototype.

4. Slow down and enjoy my time building more, maybe take less orders.

5. Finish the last pieces of the shop...

6. This year actually finish a violin (I have a number in various stages of completion and keep getting pulled off, I find them fascinating).

That pretty much sums it up, oh and maybe head north and go give grumpy a big hug, since I took so many ideas from him when I first started building

1. Finish the practice box and finish a few practice tops by the end of January.  Watch Johns Advanced Tuning DVD a few more times in the process.
2. Complete #1 by end o April.
3. Have #2 and #3 done years end.
4. Kaisan - Continuous improvement.
5. Play my guitars a but more.

Enough tooling and research.  Time to build.
