Well, I made it!  I started these two at the end of September with the goal of having them ready as Christmas gifts for my two teen aged daughters.  Well, I did the finishing touches today, and got some pictures.  Both are 000 14 fret short scale guitars and one has parabolic bracing, and the other has scalloped bracing.  Both sound really good, and are quite loud.  The scalloped braced one has a bit more deep bass and is a little louder than the parabolic braced one, but that one is a little tighter sounding and the notes seem to be a little more separated if that makes any sense.  I like the sound of both and I suspect that the girls will be thrilled with what Santa brings them.

Anyways, here they are:

Tops - AA Sitka spruce from AC Woods
B&S - Opportunity grade EIR from Allied
Rosettes - Curly Bubinga and Spalt Maple from Uncle Bob
Fingerboards and bridges EIR from Allied
Binding, heel caps, and tail grafts - Koa from LMI
Tuners - Gotoh from LMI
Finish is Target USL on the bodies, Tru-oil on the necks

As you can see, these were budget minded guitars using OLF sponsors for everything.  Oh, and yeah I know... red and green bridge pins.  Well, they are for teenagers so there has to be some kind of bling on them!

Nice work David! I have an affinity for IRW and Koa; they really complement eachother. I especially like the way you have done the bottom strip. Clean and classy!

I hope that your daughters appreciate the workmanship and effort you have put into them.

They look great David.

The two OM's that I did earlier in the year sound very similar to what you are describing.

The parabolic one has opened up a little now and has more bottom end but is more focused in that area than the scalloped one.

Have you noticed a difference in volume up the neck on them?

beautiful twins! I especially like the bridge design. I like the look of the true oil finish on the necks too. I'm gonna have to get me some of that to try out.

David you should be proud times 2 my friend!!  These are both superb looking instruments and your daughters are going to be thrilled I am sure.

What difference in sound do you notice using short scale-24.9? on a 14 fret v 12 fret?

Well, we are back from spending Christmas with family in PA, and am here to report that the guitars were a huge hit with my daughters.  Neither of them had any idea that I had been building them as gifts for them, and the surprised look and smiles on their faces was the best gift I received! One daughter plays fairly well but the other has never played so I got to hear them as part of the 'audience' and that was the first time I have ever gotten to hear one of my guitars as a listener.  I have to say I was amazed at how good they sounded.  I knew they sounded good because I played them, but they sounded so much better when I was on the other sided of the sound hole so to speak. 

I just thought you would like to hear how they were received.
